This is what we call acting.

Being able to transform into another person is a must for anyone who has decided to combine their life with acting, but not everyone can master multiple roles.

In our list you will find examples of unique projects in which one person plays from two to 13 roles.

1. Suspiria, 2018

Luca Guadagnino's Suspiria is a remake of the cult horror film of the same name by Dario Argento. Young dancer Susie arrives in Berlin in the late 1970s to study at a prestigious dance school.

One of the students has recently disappeared, and soon the girl will be given the opportunity to take her place on stage. Susie has a troubled past, but after spending several days in the school, she begins to suspect that a real nightmare awaits her.

The most difficult work in the movie went to Tilda Swinton. In the role of the head of the troupe, Madame Blanc, she is easy to recognize, but can you guess that the sad old psychiatrist Joseph Klemperer has the same facial features? Swinton also played the role of the sinister witch Helena Markos.

2. Manifesto, 2015

In the film Manifesto, conceived as an art installation, Cate Blanchett tries on 13 roles at once.

The film consists of 10-minute excerpts in which a choreographer, a newscaster, a puppeteer, a factory worker, and other representatives of various professions read fragments of political and cultural manifestos and embed them in recognizable situations of the present.

3. Enemy, 2013

In Denis Villeneuve's thriller, the roles of the doubles went to Jake Gyllenhaal. The main character is a university history teacher, Adam, who one day notices an actor in a movie who looks exactly like him.

He spends all of his free time searching for the stranger and accidentally meets his wife. But will this acquaintance bring long-awaited relief, or will it only make things worse?

4. What Happened to Monday, 2017

2073. Due to the overpopulation of the planet, a child distribution law has been passed, requiring families to have no more than one child. Karen lives with her father Terrence in an apartment equipped with a special room where it is easy to hide from unexpected guests.

No one knows that father and daughter are keeping a big secret – there is no Karen. There are seven identical girls, each named after the day of the week she is allowed to leave the house. But one day, Monday never comes home.

Swedish actress Noomi Rapace played all seven roles, creating a unique character, facial expression and set of gestures for each of the women.

5. Legend, 2015

Legend recounts the criminal adventures of brothers Reggie and Ron, the most famous British gangsters of the last century.

The dual starring role went to Tom Hardy. The Kray twins are gangsters whose cruelty was the subject of dark stories in the 1960s. Hardy managed not only to convey the subtle character traits of the brothers, but also to professionally "split" in scenes where both men are in the frame and engage in hand-to-hand combat.
