Supernatural Easter Egg in The Boys Only Eagle-Eyed Fans Noticed
The Boys became one of the most popular superhero (well, superhero-ish) shows, being nominated for 6 Emmy Awards and winning several other prestigious prizes.
Poking fun at the superhero genre, the series has been praised for its clever humor, compelling storyline, and excellent acting.
And that's largely thanks to showrunner and writer Eric Kripke, who has taken a rather controversial comic book and turned it into a thoughtful and entertaining show.
But let's not forget that he is also the creator of the iconic dark fantasy drama Supernatural. And it seems that Kripke himself occasionally likes to pay subtle homage to his favorite show, which he worked on for 12 years.
Yes, first of all, of course, there is the involvement of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy, the main superhero of the Vaught Corporation in the 20th century, who was held captive by the Soviets until he was freed by Billy Butcher and company.
Supernatural's Most Unintentionally Cringe Moment We Wish We Could Unsee
It was no surprise that Kripke chose Ackles for the role, as the actor has shown how versatile his acting can be, giving his characters a unique identity.
But the references don't stop there.
For example, eagle-eyed fans noticed Jim Beaver in the second season. In Supernatural he played the role of recurring character Bobby Singer, named after the executive producer. And here's the surprise: in The Boys, Beaver plays the Secretary of Defense, whose name is... Robert Singer!
The main reference, however, was probably a brief moment from season 2.
In the final episodes of the season, it is revealed that Stormefront is a Nazi who joined the Seven in order to promote her ideas of white supremacy (of course, Vaught turned a blind eye to this). As a result, Vaught is subjected to a barrage of public criticism, and people begin to actively hate Stormfront.
Homelander Cameo in Xena The Boys' Fans Never Knew Existed
In the finale, we see the animated video that surfaced on the Internet of Stormfront being run over by a very remarkable car. This is not just any car, but the very same Dean's black 1967 Chevrolet Impala! Which is funny, considering Dean Winchester killed Hitler.
Perhaps Kripke and the other writers and directors have more references that we haven't seen yet. A good reason to revisit The Boys before the new season comes out, which will surely include some Supernatural references!
