Superman’s Next DCU Movie Just Scored a Game-Changing Update
Man of Tomorrow just leaped forward with a major update, setting up Superman’s next DCU chapter as momentum surges after Creature Commandos, James Gunn’s July 2025 Superman, and the Peacemaker season 2 finale on HBO Max.
Quick one: Superman 2 is moving. James Gunn just dropped a small but telling update, there is fresh evidence the suit is off the museum mannequin and back on set, and the DCU train keeps rolling.
Where the DCU is at
- 2024: The new Gunn/Safran DCU officially kicked off with the animated Creature Commandos.
- 2025: Gunn's Superman hit theaters in July, and Peacemaker Season 2 wrapped on HBO Max earlier this month.
- 2026: Next up are Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface.
- 2027: The Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, is on the calendar.
Today’s update: Storyboards and a spring start
Gunn posted a photo on Threads of a thick stack of storyboard cards for Man of Tomorrow, captioned 'Storyboards sequence #3'. Translation: pre-production is deep in it, and yes, they are slicing this thing down to shots already. The plan is to roll cameras next spring.
Someone asked if every card equals a shot. Gunn clarified with a little process tidbit:
'No. Some shots take up more than one card because of movement in the shot.'
That checks out. If a shot has a lot of camera movement or blocking changes, it can sprawl across multiple panels.
Super suit on the move
Over on Twitter, the fan account Home of DCU shared a photo noting that Warner Bros. has temporarily pulled David Corenswet's Superman costume from public display because it is 'currently being used by production' on Man of Tomorrow. Not exactly shocking, but it is a nice little proof-of-life for the shoot-upcoming timeline.
Who is back, and who is the villain?
David Corenswet is back as Clark Kent/Superman, and Nicholas Hoult returns as Lex Luthor. Plot-wise, the studio is keeping it locked up for now. The loudest rumble in the rumor mill is Brainiac as the big bad, but that is not confirmed. Fans are also expecting some connective tissue to the Peacemaker Season 2 ending; how much the movie leans into that is still a question mark.
