A Stranger Things star has stoked fears their character won’t make it out of Season 5 alive, just as the Duffer Brothers’ hit readies its three-part final chapter on Netflix.

Stranger Things is about to bow out, and one of the OG kids may have just spooked the fandom right before the finish line. Caleb McLaughlin dropped a line in a recent cast chat that has people wondering if Lucas is even around for the big final showdown.

The comment that launched 10,000 panic tweets

On November 13, 2025, a fan account on Twitter @_hellshee_ shared a clip of the cast talking about the Season 5 finale. Finn Wolfhard calls the finale the hardest thing they filmed this season and basically says they cannot talk about it without getting in trouble. Then McLaughlin tosses out this curveball:

'My finale was different, so I don’t know.'

In the moment, Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Noah Schnapp look genuinely thrown off by that, which only poured gasoline on the speculation. Was he joking? Is Lucas off doing something separate? Or is he... not in the finale? Fans immediately started spiraling, with replies running from the all-caps 'WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUR FINALE?!' to more ominous takes about expecting backlash if Lucas gets done dirty. Some viewers have also pointed out that McLaughlin and Charlie Heaton have made a few eyebrow-raising comments lately, but it is tough to tell if anyone is hinting at plot or just trolling to keep secrets intact.

What we actually know about Season 5

Here is the non-speculative stuff. Season 5 is the last chapter of the Duffer Brothers' Netflix hit. The season is split into three drops, and the schedule is very holiday-friendly. Also, minor correction to some confusing chatter out there: the season runs eight episodes total.

Release plan:

  • Part 1: November 26, 2025
  • Part 2: December 25, 2025
  • Part 3: December 31, 2025

Who is back in Hawkins (and beyond)

The cast is stacked with returning favorites and a notable new face:

  • Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers
  • David Harbour as Jim Hopper
  • Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven
  • Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler
  • Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair
  • Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson
  • Noah Schnapp as Will Byers
  • Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield
  • Natalia Dyer as Nancy Wheeler
  • Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers
  • Joe Keery as Steve Harrington
  • Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley
  • Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman
  • Priah Ferguson as Erica Sinclair
  • Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna
  • Linda Hamilton as Dr. Kay

So... is Lucas in danger?

Maybe. Maybe not. McLaughlin could be teasing a separate storyline, a misdirection, or the worst-case scenario for Lucas. Given how sealed-up this show is about spoilers, do not expect clarity until we are actually watching. But if the writers take Lucas off the board in a way that feels cheap, fans are already signaling they will not be quiet about it.

We will find out soon enough when Part 1 lands on November 26. Until then, consider me cautiously nervous and fully braced for whatever 'different finale' means.
