Stranger Things Fans Kinda Root for Jonathan Not to End Up With Nancy
It would appear that not everyone shares an affection for Jancy.
Even though the Duffer Brothers and the writing staff always give definitive answers regarding romantic relationships provided in the series, Stranger Things has always been a fertile ground for fan theories. Fans are constantly coming up with their own narrative interpretations, and as a result, plot developments that diverge from these are sometimes met with criticism or hopeful anticipation that things will take a different turn.
This time, the focus is on Jonathan and Nancy, who have been a couple since Season 2, despite some disagreements along the way. Some Stranger Things fans believe there's insufficient chemistry between the two to sustain their relationship until the finale of the forthcoming fifth season and want them to break up. After all, they believe there's a more suitable potential partner for Jonathan.
Let's Talk About Jancy
Some fans argue that Nancy is significantly less attached to Jonathan than he is to her. Many recall that in Season 4, while Jonathan was on a road trip, Nancy and Steve shared a glance in the Upside Down after an attack by bats. That was reminiscent of an instance in Season 3 when Nancy appeared to be jealous of Steve's friendship with Robin.
'It doesn't seem like they love each other and Nancy clearly never got over Steve and not just in S4 but also in S3 when she asked Robin who she is and Robin said she works with Steve, Nancy looked jealous and angry so this Jancy relationship seems kinda pointless to me and it’s definitely my least favorite in the show,' a fan argued.
Furthermore, fans pointed out the immediate chemistry between Jonathan and Samantha Stone during the Halloween party in Season 2. Let's overlook the fact that Jonathan, a fan of post-punk and new wave, didn't recognize her reference to Siouxsie Sioux, but they certainly had potential, given their shared love of similar music genres and general eccentricities.
So Is It Time For Stancy Again?
But if so, should Jonathan and Nancy really part ways and the latter reunite with Steve? Many people think not.
First, Nancy has always had a soft spot for Jonathan, even when she was with Steve. Second, their approaches to dealing with trauma are too different, and Nancy felt the disconnect between them very acutely, especially after Barb's death. Third, it's entirely possible that Samantha was a plot device to make Jonathan seem less of an outcast among his peers, thereby making his relationship with Nancy seem more natural.
