Family Guy unleashes a Halloween Special trailer that conjures chaos as Stewie and Brian chase the perfect spooky track while Peter and the gang fight for their lives.

Spooky season is here, which means networks are trotting out their Halloween specials like candy corn you pretend to hate but still eat. Hulu just dropped the trailer and key art for a new Family Guy Halloween one-off, and it leans into everything the show does best: shameless gags, violent detours, and Stewie and Brian turning a bit into a full musical production.

What is it and when can you watch?

The special is called 'A Little Fright Music' — yes, a Sondheim wink — and it premieres Monday, October 6 on Hulu and Disney+. It is being billed as a Hulu exclusive while also streaming on Disney+. Make of that what you will.

'In the new Halloween special, "A Little Fright Music," Brian and Stewie realize there is a shortage of quality Halloween songs, so they set out to write a hit, and Peter and the guys discover that lying about trick or treating can have deadly consequences.'

Trailer highlights

  • Lois is doing the heavy lifting to whip the Griffin house into Halloween shape.
  • Chris discovers another use for the holes in a rotting pumpkin. You can probably connect the dots.
  • Brian and Stewie embark on writing the ultimate Halloween banger because apparently the spooky playlist canon is thin.
  • Peter and the guys get chased by real killers hiding behind Halloween as cover, including a very unsubtle chainsaw situation. Quahog is not okay.

Why this special makes sense for Family Guy

The show has always loved a genre parody and big, orchestral music cues — which actually matters here since half the plot is a songwriting mission. If you’ve been around since 1999, you know the drill: sharp jokes, deep-cut references, glossy animation, and a full-band sound that’s bigger than most sitcoms bother with.

Quick status check on the show

Family Guy hit its 25th anniversary in 2024, and it’s long since graduated to cult-institution status. Stewie, the talking-baby menace, became the breakout star and, depending on who you ask, one of TV’s all-time great characters. Awards-wise, the series once scored an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series — only the second animated show in TV history to get that nod.

On the voice front, Seth MacFarlane (Peter, Stewie, Brian, Quagmire) was nominated in 2021 for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance and won in 2019. He also won in 2017 and 2016, was nominated in 2018, and racked up nominations from 2013 through 2015. Alex Borstein (Lois) won that category in 2018 and was just nominated again in 2024.

Bottom line: expect a holiday special that mixes music-nerd ambition with slasher-movie chaos, and at least one joke you’ll pretend not to laugh at. Premiere is Monday, October 6 on Hulu and Disney+.
