Steven Yeun Won't Rule Out an MCU Future
Almost in the lineup: the actor was set to join Thunderbolts* before scheduling conflicts forced a last-minute exit.
Steven Yeun is keeping the Marvel door propped open. After stepping away from Thunderbolts* last year, the Invincible and The Walking Dead standout says he saw the movie, still thinks the world of director Jake Schreier, and, yes, he is game if the stars line up.
"I love Jake, Jake Schreier, incredible human director. I never say never. I'm around."
From Glenn, to Mark Grayson, to maybe-MCU-again
Yeun broke out as Glenn on The Walking Dead, then kept his Robert Kirkman streak rolling by voicing Mark Grayson in the animated Invincible. In 2023 he quietly joined Marvel's Thunderbolts*, reuniting with Schreier, who had just directed episodes of Beef with Yeun. The pairing made sense, and it even fed into the movie's marketing, which flirted with a moody, A24-adjacent vibe rather than the usual MCU gloss.
So what happened with Thunderbolts*?
- Marvel never announced Yeun's role, which sent fans straight to the Sentry theory: a complicated, absurdly powerful anti-hero.
- The 2023 writers and actors strikes paused production. When the film revved back up, Yeun's calendar did not match the new schedule, so he exited.
- Lewis Pullman ultimately stepped in as Sentry, aka 'Bob'.
- This was a clean schedule clash, not a creative blowup, which explains why Yeun is still speaking warmly about Schreier and leaving that MCU window open.
Gillian Jacobs has a Marvel pitch of her own
Invincible co-star Gillian Jacobs is also Marvel-curious, and she is not shy about it.
"I actually have a pitch. Do you know this comic, Dakota North? It was a short-run Marvel comic. I think that would make a great TV show."
Jacobs says she would happily jump in however they would have her, on screen or behind the scenes. She loves the character and the sharp, stylish world those pages sketched out. Deep cut, great taste.
Invincible season 4 lands March 18
Even if Yeun's MCU arc takes a minute, we do not have to wait to hear him suit up again as Mark. Invincible season 4 hits Prime Video on March 18, with Yeun back alongside Gillian Jacobs, Sandra Oh, and J.K. Simmons.
This season picks up as the world tries to recover from last season's global catastrophe. Mark feels the weight of it, doubles down on protecting home and the people he loves, and crashes headfirst into a new, heavy-duty threat that could rewrite humanity's future.
