Arrow alum Stephen Amell just stoked DCU buzz, reaffirming his love for Oliver Queen and signaling he’s game to suit up as Green Arrow again—now the ball’s in James Gunn’s court. He breaks down his bond with the character and where a comeback could fit in the new universe.

Stephen Amell knows the question is not going away: is he suiting up as Green Arrow again for James Gunn's DC Universe? He tackled it head-on at Motor City Comic Con, and his answer was pretty much exactly what you would expect from the guy who carried Arrow for eight seasons.

So... is he coming back?

During the Arrowverse Heroes panel at Motor City Comic Con, speaking with ScreenRant, Amell was asked point blank about returning as Oliver Queen in the new DCU. His response:

"I have no idea... I'd be down to do anything that makes the fans happy."

He made it clear that what still sticks with him is how personally fans connected to Arrow. He hears about the show constantly, and people tend to share what it meant to them more than anything else.

Quick catch-up

  • Amell led Arrow on The CW for eight seasons; the series ended in 2020 with Oliver Queen's death.
  • He popped back in for a brief return in The Flash season 9.
  • Post-Arrow, he has worked on Heels and Suits: LA.
  • As of now, he says he has not had any talks with DC Studios about the DCU.

Ramsey weighed in too

David Ramsey (John Diggle) also chimed in at the same panel. He did not go so far as to say he wants to return as Diggle, but when asked what other DC character he would like to play, he tossed out "I love Darkseid" — very much as a joke.

About those DCU recast questions

Both guys got the inevitable: if the DCU recasts your roles, who should replace you? Amell essentially shut that down with a quick "no, thank you," and Ramsey laughed and agreed. No names were offered.

Where this leaves things

Gunn's rebooted DC Universe is mostly a clean slate, but the fan push to bring back certain Arrowverse actors is still loud. Amell's position tracks with Grant Gustin's earlier this year — open to the idea, but no conversations with Gunn have happened. Translation: never say never, but do not expect anything until someone actually picks up the phone.
