Star Trek Fans May Not Have to Wait Long for Strange New Worlds Season 5

Excitement is building as rumors point to a much sooner-than-expected return for Strange New Worlds—here’s what we’re hearing about the possible release date.
Strange New Worlds is not wasting time. Showrunner Henry Alonso Myers says Season 5 is already in motion as the series sprints toward its planned finish, with Season 4 wrapped and on deck for next year. If you like your Star Trek tidy and on schedule, this is that.
Where things stand right now
Myers confirms Season 5 has entered production. When he spoke to ScreenRant, the team was moving fast and only days away from rolling cameras:
"I mean, it’s, it’s going very fast. We are right in the middle of it. We’re about to start shooting in a week or so."
Season 4 is already filmed and expected to land in 2026. Paramount+ locked in Season 5 back in June 2025 as the show’s final chapter, and it will run six episodes. Director Jordan Canning, who has helmed episodes before, is back for Season 5.
The bigger picture
Strange New Worlds premiered in May 2022, spun out of Star Trek: Discovery, and it is the 11th series in the franchise. The show has been a bright spot for Trek die-hards and casuals alike — Season 3 drew strong notices and the series sits at a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Starring Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and Ethan Peck as Spock, the series is shepherded by executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Jenny Lumet, and Henry Alonso Myers, with Rod Roddenberry also attached. Yes, that Roddenberry.
Release timing, in plain English
- Season 4: Filmed and expected in 2026 (no exact date yet).
- Season 5: In production now; Myers indicated filming was imminent when he spoke. No official premiere date, but an early 2027 window makes sense if the current pace holds.
- Endgame: Seasons 4 and 5 will close the book on Pike and the Enterprise crew, completing the five-season plan.
The inside baseball here: Paramount+ is overlapping the last two seasons so the finale arrives when it should. No premiere dates are locked, but the cadence looks clear — 2026 for Season 4, then the six-episode swan song likely in early 2027. Engage, but, you know, on a schedule.
