Spider-Man: Brand New Day is stacking its crossover firepower—Jon Bernthal’s Punisher joins Tom Holland’s webslinger, and, according to industry insider Daniel Richtman @DanielRPK, the Defenders-verse nemesis The Hand is set to strike in a major way.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is starting to sound less like a neighborhood problem and more like a full-on street-level crossover. We already knew Tom Holland is back as Peter and Jon Bernthal is along for the ride as Frank Castle. Now a new rumor says the ninja death cult from the Netflix era might be crashing the party too. Yes, The Hand.

The Hand in play? That is the rumor

Industry watcher Daniel Richtman (aka @DanielRPK) says The Hand will be a key factor in Brand New Day. If you watched the Netflix shows, you know how messy that gets. The Hand are not your garden-variety thugs; they tend to bring bodies back from the dead and topple entire corners of the city while doing it. With a bunch of those Defenders-era characters either back or circling the MCU again, this definitely raises the odds of Charlie Cox popping up as Matt Murdock. Not confirmed, but the dots connect.

Quick refresher: who exactly are The Hand?

In the comics, The Hand is an ancient, secretive assassin network that started in Japan. They mix classic shinobi training with occult weirdness: ninjutsu plus mystic practices and straight-up demonic magic. On top of that, they play the long game through political influence and organized crime to spread their reach worldwide.

Their whole ideology is survival of the fittest turned into a religion. They see themselves as chosen to purge weakness from the world, which, in practice, means ritualized killing to speed up what they think nature would do anyway. What pushes them from criminal syndicate to outright cult is their dark god, The Beast. The Beast empowers them with nasty perks like resurrecting the dead and demands constant bloodshed in return.

If that brand of trouble lands in Brand New Day, the stakes jump fast. Especially if the other chatter holds and Spidey is already dealing with Scorpion and some version of the Sinister Six. That is a lot of enemies for one kid from Queens.

Does this drag Daredevil into the mix?

It would make sense. The Hand has long history with Daredevil, Elektra, and even Wolverine in the comics. If The Hand show up in Peter’s movie, it is an easy doorway for Matt Murdock. Nothing locked yet, but it is not hard to see Marvel threading that needle.

How this could ripple into Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

There is ongoing buzz that Holland’s Spider-Man factors into Avengers: Doomsday and maybe even Secret Wars. If Daredevil is in Brand New Day too, that sets him up for bigger MCU business. In the comics’ Shadowland arc, Matt gets possessed by The Beast and becomes way more powerful than your standard rooftop brawler. Marvel loves a visual swing, so a version of that could happen onscreen if they want the spectacle. None of this is guaranteed right now, but it is on the table.

  • Brand New Day cast/rumors: Tom Holland returns; Jon Bernthal is set to appear as The Punisher; The Hand are rumored to play a major role (per DanielRPK); potential Daredevil appearance is being speculated
  • Why The Hand matters: ancient assassin cult from Japan; mixes ninjutsu, mystic arts, and demonic magic; manipulates politics and crime; worships The Beast, who grants resurrection in exchange for bloodshed
  • Other villains in the mix: chatter points to Scorpion and a Sinister Six lineup targeting Spider-Man
  • Bigger MCU angle: rumors suggest Holland’s Spidey in Avengers: Doomsday and possibly Secret Wars; if Daredevil is involved and The Beast storyline is teased, both heroes could be in play for the Phase 6 finale
  • Avengers: Doomsday (as currently being talked about): directed by the Russo Brothers; cast includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, and Anthony Mackie; dated for December 18, 2026
  • Release date to circle for now: Spider-Man: Brand New Day is slated for July 31, 2026 in the US

Bottom line: if Marvel really brings The Hand into Peter’s world, expect ninjas, resurrection drama, and a probable Daredevil sighting. It is an unexpected lane change for a Spider-Man movie, but if they are aiming at Phase 6 fireworks, this is one way to light the fuse.
