Southern Charm Star Kathryn Dennis Jailed on DUI Charge: Inside the Arrest

Southern Charm alum Kathryn Dennis has been sentenced to 30 days in prison for DUI, nearly a year after a three-car crash that sparked the case.
Reality TV rarely stays on TV. Case in point: former Southern Charm cast member Kathryn Dennis was sentenced to 30 days in jail for DUI, nearly a year after a three-car crash she caused in South Carolina.
The crash that set this in motion
On Monday, May 20, 2024, Dennis was involved in a three-vehicle collision near the intersection of US Highway 52 and Stephanie Drive in the Goose Creek area. When police arrived, witnesses told them she smelled strongly of alcohol and seemed out of it. The responding officer noted the same and documented it.
The officer described her as having 'glossy eyes' (as reported by local outlet Count On 2 News).
- Police say they found an unopened mini-Fireball bottle on the driver-side floorboard and an empty pink tumbler in the car
- The officer reported smelling alcohol on Dennis
- She initially denied drinking or taking any medication
- She agreed to field sobriety tests, during which officers noted signs of impairment
- She later admitted she had consumed alcohol earlier
- She refused medical testing and treatment
- She was released at the time on a $1,475 bond
The sentence
On Friday, a court in Berkeley County sentenced the 34-year-old to 30 days in the county jail after a DUI conviction stemming from that incident. As of now, there is no official statement from Dennis or her team.
The context (and yes, it is messy)
Dennis has had headlines follow her before. She was previously accused in a hit-and-run that stirred up plenty of controversy. And in a bit of Southern Charm inside baseball: back in season 6, she said on camera that she was drunk all the time. She spent a big chunk of her career on that show, and moments like that are hard to forget when real-life legal trouble shows up later.
With 30 days ahead of her, expect a statement soon. Not exactly the kind of encore you want from a reality TV alum, but here we are.
