A TV critic who has previewed the first two episodes of Queen Charlotte has shared some intriguing insights. Here is what she had to say.

The countdown to the 4th of May premiere of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on Netflix is well underway. Bridgerton fans are on the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating and speculating about what might be in store in the prequel to the beloved romantic series.

Fortunately, some people have already seen the first two episodes, and at least one is willing to share some tantalising spoilers.

Film and TV critic, and Tumblr user @katesheffieldbridgerton, known as Caryn, is a prominent figure within the Bridgerton fandom. Having previously shared spot-on spoilers for Bridgerton Season 2, Caryn has returned to whet the fandom's appetite for Queen Charlotte without revealing too much.

Here is what we can expect in the first two episodes of the prequel.

Present Day Timeline

It is common knowledge among fans that the storyline of Queen Charlotte encompasses two timelines: present and past. The first two episodes comprise an 80/20 ratio of past/present content. According to Caryn, the present is set sometime between Seasons 2 and 3 of Bridgerton. The year is not specified, but the Queen discusses Violet Bridgerton having orchestrated two successful marriages for her children.

New Addition To The Bridgertons

Present-day Violet Bridgerton is shown with two grandchildren.

The scene is brief and narrated by Lady Whistledown. Violet is sitting on the floor with a baby in her lap, and Augie is playing nearby. The baby bears a striking resemblance to Augie, leading many fans to speculate that it could be another child of Daphne and Simon.

Queen Charlotte's Relationships

In the present day, the focus is on Charlotte's relationships with her children and the attempt to unravel their lineage. The past scenes centre around Charlotte's relationship with George, which is complex and generates the primary intrigue in the story.

Lord and Lady Danbury’s Relationship

The audience learns a great deal about Lady Danbury's domestic life. Most scenes depict her rolling her eyes at her husband and expressing annoyance with him. This aligns with her present-day perspective, in which she refers to marriage as a prison sentence.

Sex Scenes

Two sex scenes feature in the second episode, involving different couples. The first is swift but highly charged, with no nudity. The second is lengthier, more passionate, and romantic, showcasing some male nudity.

Multiracial England

The central question fans have about Queen Charlotte is whether the prequel will illustrate how England became the multiracial country depicted in Bridgerton. According to Caryn, this theme will be explored in depth.

Charlotte is accepted as a person of nobility due to her royal blood, but her race is perceived more as an anomaly. It is evident that interracial marriages are uncommon when Charlotte first arrives in London.

The Danburys and the Bassets, while independently wealthy, are not part of the ton and do not mix with white nobility. George and Charlotte's marriage alters this dynamic. Lady Danbury plays a crucial role in transforming Charlotte's England into a multiracial society.
