So, When Exactly Should We Expect Heartstopper Season 3 Release?
It might be sooner than you’d think.
Such was the instant success of Heartstopper when it debuted on Netflix last year that within weeks the show was given the green light for a second (and third) season. This is a rare phenomenon, and one that demonstrated not only Netflix's confidence in the show, but also what the television world had been missing.
Created by Alice Oseman and based on her graphic novel and webcomic series of the same name, Heartstopper has received a huge amount of positive reviews for its sensitive handling of coming of age and coming out as a teenager.
Indeed, the show has been credited with giving some of its fans the inspiration and courage to come out in real life and truly be themselves.
Many viewers found they had binged season 1 within hours of its eight-episode release on the streaming service on 22 April 2022. And season 2 got the same treatment when all the episodes were made available on 3 August this year.
So, if you're already binged out but desperate for more of Nick and Charlie, how long will you have to wait for a new season of arguably the world's favourite queer teen drama?
Well, the good news for fans is that production of the show will not be affected by the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in America, as Heartstopper is written and produced in the UK. However, no official date has yet been announced for when season 3 will air. Nor have we had any confirmation of when filming will begin - although it's due to start in the autumn of this year, with October the most likely time.
Once things are up and running, we can expect the Heartstopper season 3 trailer to follow fairly quickly. Although whether we'll have to wait 15 months (as we did between seasons 1 and 2) is up for debate.
With the strikes in the US showing no signs of abating in the near future, Netflix may soon find that some of the shows they expect to release in the spring or early summer of 2024 simply won't be ready. This could mean they have to rely on new content from other parts of the world to keep viewers watching. And that could mean season 3 of Heartstopper airing sooner than you think.
