The hair brush was one of the symbols that foreshadowed The Idol finale from day one.

The Idol finale, which aired on Sunday, July 2, turned out to be both what the viewers were expecting and what they were dreading all along.

Though the tables turned, it left many confused and asking a lot of questions, from big ones like 'What happened between Jocelyn and Tedros?' to smaller ones about the story's puzzling details like 'What's with the new hair brush?'

In fact, these questions are related. The big final twist is that Jocelyn turned out to be the abusive master manipulator of the story. She knew exactly what Tedros was doing all along, and she used him and everyone around her to get what she wanted — fight her way to pop culture domination.

The hints of this were spread all over the show, from the opening scene where the protagonist shows off her acting skills and the Basic Instinct reference, to Xander's shock collar scene and the lyrics of Joss' songs. The hair brush seems to be one of those clues and a kind of symbol of the toxic match between Jocelyn and Tedros.

At the end of the final episode, Tedros, whom Jocelyn lets into her dressing room and back into her life, asks if the hair brush on the counter is the one her mother used to beat her with. She says it is, and when Tedros points out that the brush is brand-new, Joss breaks into a smile that visibly frightens and freezes Tedros. This scene is never explored further and is left to the creative mind of the viewer to explain.

But as fans on Reddit point out, the new hair brush can only mean that Jocelyn has been exaggerating her past trauma — or making it up — and putting on an act all along. The hair brush was a weapon to keep her relationship with Tedros going as long as it was beneficial to her, and it looks like Joss may not be done with him just yet.

Jocelyn is a shark, and she now owns Tedros after the humiliation she and her team put him through. The hair brush is a symbol of that weird, twisted, obsessive attachment between the characters. Tedros may use the brush on Joss, but only when she wants him to.
