The Comeback is officially on the comeback trail—HBO has set a Season 3 release window and tapped a Sherlock alum to join the cast.

Valerie Cherish is not done with us yet. HBO finally put a window on The Comeback returning, dropped a new cast addition, and yes, confirmed this will be the last round. It has been a minute since we checked in on Valerie — and by a minute, I mean a decade-plus — so here is where things stand.

When it drops

HBO says The Comeback will premiere its third and final season in March 2026. No exact day yet. The timing came straight from HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys at the 2026 Content Showcase in London. If you are keeping score at home: Season 1 debuted in June 2005, Season 2 arrived in late 2014, and now Season 3 lands in 2026. This show really lives up to its title.

What Valerie is up to now

The series, created by Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King, has always followed Kudrow as Valerie Cherish, a former 90s sitcom name trying to replant herself in the industry via reality TV and scripted work. The creators are keeping specific plot details under wraps, but their tease is very on-brand for Valerie:

Valerie has found her way back to the current television landscape. Neither of us are surprised she did.

A new face with a lot of buzz

Andrew Scott is officially aboard for Season 3. HBO confirmed his casting alongside the March 2026 window, though they are not saying who he plays yet. It is Scott's first project with HBO. On top of that, he is currently in the Oscar race for playing Richard Rodgers in Richard Linklater's Blue Moon, and he already has Emmy nominations for Black Mirror and Ripley. Good year for that guy.

The cast and the people behind it

  • Andrew Scott joins an ensemble that includes returning faces Dan Bucatinsky, Zane Phillips, and Damian Young, plus Brittany O'Grady, Laura Silverman, and Julian Stern.
  • Executive producers: Michael Patrick King, Lisa Kudrow, John Melfi, and Dan Bucatinsky.
  • HBO also shared a first-look image of Kudrow back as Valerie Cherish.

That is the setup: a long-awaited final chapter, a very buzzy new addition, and a character who refuses to fade out. March 2026 cannot come fast enough.
