Shudder is doubling down on The Creep Tapes — season 2 doesn’t land until November, but the streamer has already ordered season 3.

Shudder is feeling pretty confident about The Creep Tapes. How confident? Season 2 hits November 14, and they have already locked in Season 3 for 2026. Not bad for a franchise that started as a tiny found-footage movie about a deeply awkward guy with a camera and terrible intentions.

How we got here

Back in 2014, writer-director Patrick Brice and co-writer-star Mark Duplass teamed with Blumhouse for Creep, a lo-fi horror oddity that found an audience fast. Creep 2 followed in 2017. Brice even said a third film was in the works to close out a trilogy... and then the plan shifted. Instead of jumping right to another feature, they spun the idea into a TV series: The Creep Tapes.

Season 1 blew up

The first season, six episodes, premiered on Shudder and AMC+ last November and apparently overperformed in a big way. Shudder did not undersell it:

"The most watched Shudder show of all time on AMC+ and the strongest November release in Shudder history, driving record subscriber growth and social media engagement."

Translation: big numbers, lots of chatter, greenlights get easier.

What Season 2 is doing

Season 2 sticks with the same nasty little premise: a reclusive serial killer hires videographers under the guise of a paid gig documenting his life. As the tapes roll, the behavior gets weird, then worse, and the poor souls behind the camera realize they probably should have stayed home. Another six-episode drop, with Duplass back and a new slate of victims and collaborators.

  • Premiere date: November 14 on Shudder and AMC+
  • Guest cast: David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Robert Longstreet (The Haunting of Hill House), Katie Aselton (Black Rock), Diego Josef (There’s Someone Inside Your House), Desean Terry (The Morning Show), Alec Bewkes (Lo$t BoyZ), Linas Phillips (Spree), Taylor Garron (Abbott Elementary), Timm Sharp (M3GAN 2.0), Jody Lambert (Banana Split), and Jeff Man (Creep 2)
  • Format: Six episodes pulled from the killer’s so-called secret vault

Season 3 already set

Before Season 2 even arrives, Shudder has ordered The Creep Tapes Season 3 for 2026. That is a pretty loud vote of confidence in the show’s momentum and the team behind it.

Who is making it

The Creep Tapes is produced by Duplass Brothers Productions and Shudder. Patrick Brice and Mark Duplass are executive producers and write the series, with Brice directing every episode. Mel Eslyn, Jay Duplass, and Chris Donlon are also executive producers, and Shuli Harel serves as co-executive producer.

And what about Creep 3?

Brice and Duplass still plan to cap the original movie run with Creep 3 at some point. For now, they are clearly having fun mining the killer’s tape library on TV. Honestly, if they keep delivering this brand of slow-burn dread and painfully awkward menace, I am not complaining.
