Grey's Anatomy characters always have it rough! Interns, residents, and attendants face difficult cases every day, exhausting their nerves and energy trying to save their patients' lives. And all of this takes place against a backdrop of personal dramas that the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital staff also deal with on a daily basis.

And while the medical staff are heroes, the mothers on the show are no less, always willing to sacrifice their time, health, and even their lives for the sake of their children. Sadly, despite their significant contribution, they are often the ones who get the least screen time.

Here's a list of five Grey's Anatomy moms who deserve more attention from fans.

5. Megan Hunt

This character deserves a special place on our list because of the heroism she demonstrated for her son. When Megan, a US Army surgeon, was found ten years later as a prisoner of war with an open abdomen from the bombing, her only thought was how to save the Syrian child, Farouk, whom she had tried to adopt in Iraq.

Fortunately, her then-lover Nathan succeeded in rescuing the boy, and Megan was insanely happy to be reunited with Farouk.

4. Susan Grey

Susan is remembered as an excellent foster mother to Meredith. Meredith grew up in a very cold and unemotional environment. Her biological mother, Ellis, did not show much affection for her daughter, and it was Susan who gave Meredith motherly love and support.

Unfortunately, Meredith lost her foster parent, as Susan couldn't be saved from an infection neglected by doctors.

3. Jane Burke

Jane Burke, also known as Mama Burke, is Preston's mother. Although at first she came across as overly strict and controlling, deciding which partners were right or wrong for her son, it was clear that Jane always loved and cared for Preston and wished him nothing but happiness.

2. Evelyn Hunt

Megan and Owen's mother was always a caring character who took an interest in her children's lives and helped them whenever they faced hardships and challenges. As a person with military experience, she never tolerated unnecessary drama and was always able to provide sound and rational advice.

1. Diane Pierce

Diane was a great mother, ready to give love, comfort, and support to her daughter, Maggie, at all times. She once told Meredith, Maggie's biological half-sister, that she wanted to have more children so her daughter wouldn't feel lonely, and this shows just how much love and tenderness Diane felt towards her child.

She also quickly got to know Maggie's co-workers at the hospital and maintained a warm relationship with them until her death from breast cancer.
