OMFD Season 2 delivered even more drama.

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 has already captured our hearts and imagination as we empathize with our beloved buccaneers. In the meantime, there's been plenty of heart-wrenching drama as some characters discovered new companions and started to consider not only their captains' feelings but their own as well.

We're referring to Jim and Oluwande, the best friends who began to develop romantic feelings for each other in the first season. However, just as we started to envision the blossoming romance of the Teal Oranges ship, both characters found new romantic interests — Jim became involved with Archie, and Olu started being pursued by Zheng Yi Sao. But should they end up together, or is it better for them to remain friends?

Together

Not Just Friends

Even though Jim refers to Olu as their best friend (which is not a lie!), this doesn't mean they lack romantic feelings for each other. After the events of Season 1, they hardly expected to see each other again, and consumed by loneliness and despair, they sought comfort in others. We shouldn't overlook the possibility that Jim might be non-monogamous, which doesn't contradict the potential for a romantic interest in Oluwande.

One of OFMD's Best Ships

Some fans won't forgive David Jenkins and company if Teal Oranges doesn't materialize. After all, the 'best friends turned lovers' trope isn't so bad, and Jim and Olu genuinely care about each other: even the fact that Jim's favorite color is teal relates to Oluwande's earring color.

Apart

New Romance Equals New Conflict

In Stede and Ed's story, the conflict is that the former needs to forgive himself, and the latter still has to accept that he is loved. Jim and Olu, on the other hand, lacked a significant source of conflict previously. Now, the new potential partners will provide a good source of drama and reflect their relationship.

Focus on Themselves

Alternatively, their sexual and romantic interactions in Season 1 might have been their attempts to find comfort in each other. Jim was tormented by the idea of avenging the Siete Gallos, and Olu was seeking a way to console a friend. Now, they have an opportunity to explore their own feelings, understand their desires, and acknowledge their own autonomy — who knows, they might reconnect, but they definitely need time first.

The next two episodes will be released on Max on October 12.
