The student has surpassed his teacher…in height.

As Hollywood is in the midst of the WGA-SAG-AFTRA strike that shows no signs of stopping, our favourite projects are being put on hold. Young Sheldon is just one of the TV shows at risk of not returning to the screens after the usual summer hiatus.

The sole spin-off of CBS's hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon premiered in 2017 when its parent show was in its tenth season. The two ran concurrently for two years until TBBT's finale in 2019. Since its debut, YS has delivered six seasons, with the sixth wrapping up this past spring with a grand one-hour finale.

Largely based on TBBT's canon, Young Sheldon has creative constraints. For this reason, it is slated to conclude after season 7, which was initially scheduled for a fall release. Because of the strike, however, its debut has been indefinitely postponed, as the prequel's stars ardently support the unions' cause. Recently, Iain Armitage and Wallace Shawn were spotted at a SAG-AFTRA rally.

On Young Sheldon, the two actors play the titular character and his best friend/mentor, Dr. Sturgis, respectively. Given Sheldon's challenges in connecting with people, it's heartening to watch him and the distinguished scientist bond over the course of the series. Adding a comedic twist, Dr. Sturgis becomes romantically involved with Sheldon's MeeMaw at one point, creating palpably odd dynamics between them.

Perhaps this is why it's so touching to see the two actors advocate for a common cause together in the streets. Iain Armitage shared a post on Instagram that features him alongside his seasoned co-star during a recent picket.

Young Sheldon fans couldn't ignore the occasion. Apart from reminiscing about their favourite characters, many were stunned to see how tall Iain had grown. Some have expressed concern that if the strike persists and YS's seventh season doesn't start filming soon, the actor might quite literally outgrow his role. Imagine seeing Sheldon suddenly appearing a foot or two taller than before!

We hope the dispute is settled promptly, ensuring all our beloved characters, including Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis, return to our screens this fall.
