Scrubs scrubs back in: the original cast reunites 15 years later for the revival’s first table read, captured in a new photo.

Scrubs is officially clocking back in. More than 15 years after the last on-screen run, the gang just reunited for a table read of the new revival, and yes, there is photo evidence.

So, who was in the room?

The reunion shot shows series creator Bill Lawrence sitting in with Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley. That is a lot of Sacred Heart energy in one frame, and it makes the whole thing feel very real very fast.

What the revival is actually about

'JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time - medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.'

Translation: the show is leaning into the JD-and-Turk core while catching everyone up to a modern hospital world and a new wave of interns. Expect familiar faces mixed with fresh ones, and the tone you remember: silly, heartfelt, and occasionally a punch to the feelings.

Lawrence on bringing it back

'Scrubs means so very much to me. So excited for the chance to get the band back together.'

Lawrence has been open about how he wants to approach this. He is not doing the 'next day' thing. He wants to drop in years later and ask where these people ended up, especially after everything that has changed in medicine since the show went off the air. He even called back to the Season 8 finale (the one many fans treat as the real ending) where JD imagines his future and pleads, 'Tell me my fantasies won’t come true, just this once.' Lawrence notes he never said that montage was canon. The point is to figure out where these characters truly are now. Also very Lawrence: he loves stories where the students become the teachers. In this universe, that pretty much has to be the new status quo.

Inside baseball for the Sacred Heart crowd

If you are wondering about Dr. Cox: John C. McGinley is on board for the revival. And because Scrubs history can get confusing, a quick refresher: the show launched on NBC in 2001, rode a weird and wonderful mix of slapstick and fantasy cutaways into occasional gut-punch drama, and became a legit fan favorite. It ran seven seasons on NBC, then hopped to ABC for two more. That final ABC season shifted focus to a largely new class (hello, med school) while most of the original crew slid into support mode. So yes, the timeline is a little funky, which makes this reunion feel even more like a proper return.

  • Zach Braff played John 'JD' Dorian, the daydreaming intern-turned-doc
  • Donald Faison was surgical hotshot Christopher Turk, JD's soulmate in bro form
  • Sarah Chalke played Elliot Reid, ambitious, neurotic, and bluntly funny
  • John C. McGinley was Dr. Perry Cox, the human hurricane of tough love
  • Ken Jenkins played Bob Kelso, the eternally cynical Chief of Medicine
  • Judy Reyes was Carla Espinosa, the sharp, grounded nurse who kept everyone honest
  • Neil Flynn played the Janitor, a chaos agent with mysterious side quests

What we are still waiting on

No premiere date or platform details yet. For now, the table-read photo and the logline are the real signals that the revival is moving. When the band tunes up like this, the tour usually follows.
