SATC's Candace Bushnell Reacting to Kim Cattrall's Return is Basically All of Us
The author is excited to see the actress reprise her role.
Despite Sex and the City's immense popularity, few people realize it's actually based on the eponymous novel by Candace Bushnell, and even fewer fans know that the book itself is a compilation of the author's 1990s articles for The New York Observer.
These articles were first adapted for the small screen, running as the original Sex and the City series between 1998 and 2004, and then as two spin-off feature-length movies, released in 2008 and 2010.
In 2020, HBO premiered a sequel show, And Just Like That…, featuring the same beloved characters, except for Samantha Jones, portrayed by Kim Cattrall on Sex and the City. The actress famously feuded with the franchise's main star, Sarah Jessica Parker, and refused to film a third movie, stating that the SATC part of her life was over.
However, Cattrall recently made headlines when it was announced that she would reprise her role as the adventurous and libidinous public relations expert. Candace Bushnell has weighed in on the news.
Talking to Page Six, the author couldn't contain her excitement concerning Kim Cattrall's return to the franchise. Although Bushnell is not involved in the production of And Just Like That…, she cares about the story that once emerged from her writings. As for Samantha, the author believes that her comeback was very anticipated, as the spin-off really felt incomplete without her character.
'When I heard the news, I was happy and surprised. The fans love Kim and I think it will be great for the show. There was a piece missing. She was a major part of that girlfriend circle,' Bushnell said.
Indeed, we missed Samantha immensely. Most fans agree that her dynamism and charisma were the drivers of Sex and the City, while her contagious vigor was the most uplifting aspect of the show. When HBO decided to produce the sequel without her, it seemed like a total mistake on the producers' part, and this was one of the reasons many old-time fans didn't like the spin-off that much.
'I'm happy that Kim is going to go on there. I think it's probably the greatest thing for the show,' Bushnell went on. 'I think it will be a great season.'
Season 2 of And Just Like That… is set to be released on June 26. Fans can't wait to be reunited with Kim Cattrall's Samantha!
