The role of James may be one of the most important, but certainly not the most successful for the actor.

Sam Heughan has enjoyed a long acting career. He has starred in numerous plays and first appeared on TV in 2004 in the miniseries Islands at War. However, it wasn't until 2014 that he achieved global fame when he landed the lead male role in Outlander, a semi-historical romantic drama set in 18th-century Scotland.

In the series, Sam portrays James Fraser, a man from the past the show's female protagonist falls in love with.

Outlander, which has aired six seasons and has two more planned, quickly amassed a devoted worldwide following.

It would be reasonable to assume that Sam Heughan's estimated net worth of $5 million has come primarily from his Outlander earnings. However, that is not entirely the case, at least not directly.

Heughan is not only a talented actor but also a savvy entrepreneur. He used the money he made from Outlander's first season to set up his own company, Cairn Mor Creative, in 2015. Initially valued at approximately $108 thousand, the company's assets had exceeded $3.14 million by 2022.

As Heughan himself appears to be the only staff member, it's intriguing to imagine what sort of performing arts would have produced such a staggering financial windfall.

Heughan's recent ventures extend beyond Cairn Mor Creative. In 2020, he launched a whisky brand, The Sassenach, through another company he founded, Great Glen Company.

Additionally, his acting career is not confined to Outlander. In recent years, he has starred in films such as SAS: Red Notice and To Olivia and has been picked for a leading role in a new Channel 4 series tentatively titled The Couple Next Door.

Branching out even further, Heughan and his Outlander co-star Graham McTavish published a best-selling travelogue in 2020 called Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other.

While Outlander initially propelled Heughan to fame and fortune, the versatile Scottish actor is now rapidly expanding his wealth by diversifying his sources of income far and wide.
