Sakamoto Days is coming back swinging—Season 2 was confirmed at Jump Festa 2026, and production is already underway. The hit series, based on Yuto Suzuki’s manga, returns after a breakout run earlier this year and streams on Netflix.

Sakamoto Days isn’t done flipping bad guys and stocking shelves. The anime is officially coming back for Season 2 after a strong run earlier this year, and yes, the new season is already in motion.

Confirmed: Season 2 is happening

The renewal was announced at Jump Festa 2026, with the team saying production is underway. Netflix then put a stamp on it with a simple, to-the-point blast on X:

"Your favorite hitman turned convenience store owner will return for SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 2!"

If you’re new to this one: it’s based on Yuto Suzuki’s manga and follows Taro Sakamoto, a retired assassin trying to live the quiet life running a convenience store… until his old world refuses to let him go.

When is it coming out?

No release date yet. The good news: the creators say Season 2 is in development now, so a timing update shouldn’t be far off.

For context, Season 1 was handled by TMS Entertainment, streamed on Netflix, aired in two parts for a total of 22 episodes, and wrapped on September 23, 2025.

What Season 1 covered (and why that matters)

TMS dropped a brief teaser that flashes Sakamoto squaring up against multiple assassins, plus quick peeks at familiar faces. As for the manga roadmap: according to Whats on Netflix, Season 1 adapted around 75 chapters across nine volumes. Translation: there’s a lot left to adapt, so a second season has plenty of runway.

The story so far

Sakamoto used to be the most feared hitman around. Then he fell for Aoi, quit killing, and started a convenience store life with her and their daughter, Hana. That calm implodes when clairvoyant assassin Shin Asakura is sent to eliminate him. Sakamoto beats him, spares him, and somehow inspires him; Shin walks away from the assassin world and ends up working at the shop.

That’s when the Japan Assassins Association slaps a one-billion-yen bounty on Sakamoto, turning the store into a magnet for hired killers. New allies arrive, including Lu Shaotang and sharpshooter Heisuke Mashimo. The clashes drag Sakamoto back through old ties, including the elite group known as the Order. The Season 1 finale sends Sakamoto and Shin undercover into the JCC assassin academy to dig up intel on Slur, who’s busy recruiting. Expect Season 2 to push deeper into that JCC infiltration arc.

Cast: who’s likely back

Season 2 casting hasn’t been announced yet. That said, it would be surprising if the core Season 1 lineup didn’t return:

  • Tomokazu Sugita - Taro Sakamoto
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki - Shin Asakura
  • Nao Toyama - Aoi Sakamoto
  • Ayane Sakura - Lu Shaotang
  • Hina Kino - Hana Sakamoto
  • Ryota Suzuki - Heisuke Mashimo
  • Saori Hayami - Osaragi
  • Taku Yashiro - Shishiba
  • Natsuki Hanae - Nagumo

New manga characters showing up in Season 2 would naturally mean fresh voices too, but we’re waiting on the official list.
