It's not only the judges who gaslight the poor contestants.

The current season of American Idol has already been marked by a number of scandals, mostly related to the judges' questionable behavior and decisions.

In particular, many people criticized Katy Perry for mom-shaming a young singer with three children and gaslighting other contestants by taking long, ambiguous pauses before telling them whether they passed or not.

Fans thought that was very cruel and inconsiderate of Perry, but it looks like the show's host, Ryan Seacrest, did not mind her behavior at all. In fact, the host seems to have picked up the judge's questionable antics and now communicates with the contestants in the same manner, getting the audience utterly enraged.

Here's what happened in one of the show's recent episodes.

On April 24, 10 out of 20 contestants had to be sent home, so everyone was very tense and nervous about their performance. And as if to make the situation even worse, Ryan made a few strange comments to mislead the troubled singers.

The first person to experience this was Michael Williams. After the contestant sang Selena Gomez's 'Lose You to Love Me,' Seacrest noted that they 'might lose' him tonight. Williams was actually eliminated, while the host's treatment of the situation caused enormous resentment in the fandom.

'[Seacrest's] "we might lose you tonight" was so nasty omg,' one of the fans complained. And in fact, Williams was not the only one to suffer in the episode.

The host's next 'victim' was Olivia Soli. He started by praising the contestant, and she clearly took that as a good sign, but then Ryan immediately brought her back to earth, saying that she had lost.

Why would you give someone false hope at such an important moment and then disappoint them in the blink of an eye? Was it just Ryan being cruel or did the show's producers ask him to generate more drama?

'His delivery of these results is horrendous, honestly. I feel horrible for these people,' another fan said.

Of course, what Ryan Seacrest did was an effective and typical trick to make the contestants and viewers of a reality show experience a whole range of emotions. But because the stress was so huge for everyone, playing on people's emotions at this moment just wasn't ethical.

Fans' general sentiment is that Ryan is a great host, but he should reflect on his actions and stop treating contestants so badly. Overall, it's sad to see the beloved series getting bogged down in all these scandals, and people hope that the remaining episodes of this season won't disappoint them again.

American Idol's new episode, 'Disney Night,' will be released on May 14.
