Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Making Deadpool 4 His Top Priority
The Merc with a Mouth isn’t done yet: Deadpool 4 is reportedly in development, with Ryan Reynolds said to be working on the sequel.
Ryan Reynolds spent the last few months swearing he was not jumping straight into another Deadpool movie. And yet, here we are: word is he is already pushing ahead on Deadpool 4. Not officially announced, not locked, but very much being worked on behind the scenes.
So... is Deadpool 4 actually happening?
According to a new report from Puck that cites unnamed folks in the know, Reynolds is developing the next Deadpool entry. That is a quick pivot from his recent no-thanks stance after 2024's Deadpool and Wolverine, when he kept saying he wanted to step back and focus on family time.
What Reynolds has been saying (and joking)
When someone asked him point blank about Deadpool 4 not long ago, Reynolds went with a hard: "Oh god no." He has also leaned into the joke that doing another one immediately would get him in trouble at home.
"Oh god no. My wife and children will divorce me. I have no prenup with any of them. I will be capital 'B' broke, and in turn, probably then doing Deadpool 4 because I'd need the money."
Classic Reynolds: say you are not doing it, then quietly start doing it.
Why the last wait was so long
There was a six year gap between Deadpool 2 and Deadpool and Wolverine, and Reynolds has said there was a real reason beyond just scheduling. A big part of that delay was Marvel Studios absorbing 20th Century Fox, the studio that released the first two Deadpool films, which complicated and slowed the path forward.
Where Deadpool could pop up next
Even if Deadpool 4 is getting traction, Marvel being Marvel means Wade could crash other movies first. There is a genuine chance he shows up in Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, or both. Doomsday's full lineup is still under wraps, but it is already packed with characters from across the MCU. Secret Wars is poised to be even bigger and stranger, which makes it prime territory for a reality-hopping loudmouth in red and black.
Bottom line: despite all the hedging, Reynolds seems ready to put the suit back on sooner rather than later. When Marvel makes it official, we will actually pretend to be surprised.
