Rockstar’s next drop hits PC soon, landing on the Rockstar Games Launcher and other PC platforms.

Well, this is a twist. After years of nods and winks toward GTA roleplay without much concrete follow-through, Rockstar just publicly backed the next big thing in GTA V RP: nopixel 5.0. And yes, the timing feels very intentional with GTA 6 looming.

So what actually happened

nopixel announced its next major release, called nopixel V, and specifically said it was made in collaboration with Rockstar. The studio then amplified the post and put its own stamp on the partnership. That is not business as usual for Rockstar, especially around mods and community servers.

"nopixel V is the next evolution of the GTAV Roleplay experience, created in collaboration with Rockstar Games."

"Coming soon to the Rockstar Games Launcher and other PC platforms - stay tuned for more information at nopixel.net."

Rockstar: "We're excited to support the nopixel team as they create the future of GTA RP."

Quick hits

  • The new release is called nopixel V (aka nopixel 5.0).
  • Rockstar support means it is coming to the Rockstar Games Launcher, plus other PC platforms.
  • nopixel is one of the biggest GTA V RP servers, thanks in part to high-profile streamers; the new trailer name-drops folks like xQc and Pokimane.
  • Rockstar acquired the team behind the FiveM mod over two years ago, which hinted at deeper RP support that never fully showed up. This looks like the first real swing.
  • For now, it is unclear how far Rockstar's support goes beyond letting nopixel live on Rockstar's own launcher.

The inside baseball part

If you have been around GTA RP for a minute, this is the wild bit: Rockstar now owns the FiveM mod that nopixel is built on, and it is endorsing an RP server's new version on its official PC launcher. That is a pretty dramatic shift from the old days when mods existed at arm's length. It is not yet a full embrace of every RP server under the sun, but it is a clear signal that Rockstar sees RP as part of the future.

What this means for GTA 6

Everyone's immediate question: does this tell us anything about RP in GTA 6? Maybe. With the FiveM devs now under Rockstar's umbrella, you would think RP is going to get real attention in the next game. But Rockstar does what Rockstar wants, on its own schedule. If nothing else, this move plants a flag that they want RP healthy and visible heading into GTA 6.

Bottom line: nopixel V is coming soon, it is officially blessed by Rockstar, and they are framing it as a piece of GTA RP's future. How much that future overlaps with GTA 6 is the part we will all be watching. Soon enough.
