Arrows fly and sparks ignite as MGM+ drops a swashbuckling Robin Hood trailer, with the outlaw outsmarting the Sheriff of Nottingham and kindling a fiery romance while stealing back for the poor.

If you woke up in the mood for a little arrow-slinging class warfare, MGM+ has you covered. The streamer just dropped the official trailer and a batch of images for its new Robin Hood series, and yes, it is very much about robbing the rich, wooing Marian, and pulling off trick shots like it is a contact sport.

The setup

This take leans into the romance and the rebellion. Set after the Norman invasion of England, Rob is a Saxon forester’s son who falls for Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord. While Rob becomes the face of a growing outlaw movement in the forest, Marian plays the long game at court. Together, they go after royal corruption from both sides: he leads the rebels, she infiltrates the halls of power. The pitch here is a blend of grounded historical flavor, a little psychological depth, and a bigger spotlight on Rob and Marian as an actual couple, not just a legend.

Release plan, who’s making it, and who’s in it

  • Cast: Jack Patten as Rob, Lauren McQueen as Marian, Sean Bean as the Sheriff of Nottingham (excellent casting energy there), Lydia Peckham as Priscilla of Nottingham, Steven Waddington as the Earl of Huntingdon, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Why this version might hit

There are a lot of Robin Hoods out there, but this one is pushing a vibe that feels equal parts classic swashbuckler and relationship drama. The show wants to be sweeping and romantic without losing the grit of the period, and it is clearly banking on the Rob-and-Marian partnership as its spine. Also, Sean Bean glowering as the Sheriff of Nottingham is one of those casting choices that just makes sense.

Trailer’s out now if you want to see how many arrows they can split in midair. Spoiler: several.
