Robert Pattinson and Zendaya’s The Drama Locks Release Date: Here’s When You Can Watch

A24 just circled a weekend and dropped a little grenade: Robert Pattinson and Zendaya are headlining a romantic comedy called The Drama, and it now has a date. Also, yes, they are aiming it straight at Mario.

The date (and the competition)

The Drama hits theaters on April 3, 2026. That is the same day The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shows up, which is the animated follow-up to the billion-dollar Super Mario Bros. Movie. Bold counterprogramming move from A24, and a fascinating one: Pattinson + Zendaya vs. a juggernaut family sequel.

Who is making it

Kristoffer Borgli wrote and directed this one. If the name rings a bell, he made 2023's Dream Scenario with Nicolas Cage, the satirical dramedy that critics generally loved and that got Cage a Golden Globe nod for Best Actor in the comedy/musical category. Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen are producing through their Square Peg banner, while Borgli and Tyler Campellone are producing via Dilemma Films. A24 is backing the whole thing.

The cast

Beyond the headline duo, the ensemble includes Alana Haim, Mamoudou Athie, and Hailey Gates.

The plot, such as it is

Details are being kept quiet, but the logline is basically:

"a couple whose romance faces unexpected hurdles ahead of their big day."

So: wedding-adjacent chaos, but with Borgli steering, expect something a little skewed, not just cake tastings and cold feet.

Where the stars are at right now

Pattinson had a busy stretch: earlier this year he led Mickey 17, Bong Joon Ho's first film since Parasite, and he will team up with Jennifer Lawrence in Lynne Ramsey's Die, My Love, which lands in theaters on November 7.

Zendaya basically owned 2024 with Dune: Part II and Challengers. Next year she is back as Rue for Euphoria Season 3.

And yes, 2026 is stacked for both of them

The Drama is just one piece of a very crowded year they are sharing. They also co-star in two large-scale epics:

• April 3, 2026: The Drama (A24). Goes up against The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
• July 17, 2026: The Odyssey. Christopher Nolan's feature adaptation of Homer, with Matt Damon playing Odysseus on his long, dangerous trip home after the Trojan War.
• December 18, 2026: Dune: Part Three. Denis Villeneuve's third installment in his Dune trilogy; filming is underway.

Translation: if you are a Pattinson/Zendaya person, you are going to be eating well that year.
