Regina Hall is bringing Brenda Meeks back for Scary Movie 6, the franchise’s first new installment in over a decade, after a script that had her genuinely cracking up.

Yes, it’s really happening: Scary Movie is getting another chapter, the Wayans are back steering it, and so are Cindy and Brenda. Anna Faris and Regina Hall have officially rejoined Scary Movie 6, which is set to hit theaters on June 12, 2026. The new installment was first announced last year as a Wayans-led return — Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory are developing — and since then a bunch of familiar faces (and some new troublemakers) have piled on.

Why Regina Hall said yes this time

Hall told Variety she came back for a simple reason: the script made her laugh. She also liked the plan behind the jokes and the fact that the old crew was reuniting. In her words, the movie you read isn’t the movie you get until it’s finished, but the combo of nostalgia and timing made this feel right. Having the Wayans back in the driver’s seat helped, and so did teaming up with Anna Faris again — because Brenda without Cindy just isn’t as fun. For the record, Brenda is still Brenda, which is to say: not exactly a model best friend, even to her best friend.

Hall was a mainstay through the first four movies; she and Faris both skipped the fifth one (which, be honest, you probably forgot existed).

Who’s in this thing

  • Anna Faris returning as Cindy Campbell
  • Regina Hall returning as Brenda Meeks
  • Cheri Oteri returning
  • Chris Elliott returning
  • Damon Wayans Jr. joining
  • Kim Wayans joining
  • Heidi Gardner joining

Side note: Chris Elliott’s dinner scene in Scary Movie 2 — the tiny strong hand — still lives rent-free in my head. Some images you just can’t unsee.

The tone: back to the anything-goes roots

Marlon Wayans says they’re pushing the series back toward the first movie’s fearless energy. Translation: broad, rowdy, and not particularly worried about tiptoeing around feelings. His take on the approach:

"We just want to make everybody laugh, and we don’t care if you’re sensitive. Even sensitive people need to laugh at themselves. It’s not to harm, it’s to bring humor... You may offend people here and there, but, hey, not every joke’s gonna land 100 percent, but if you tell a joke and 100 people laugh and one person walks out, that’s still a good joke."

The bottom line

The Wayans are back. The core duo of Cindy and Brenda is back. The cast list is shaping up with a mix of originals and fresh faces. Hall’s in because the script made her laugh and the timing felt right, and Marlon’s promising an old-school, gloves-off parody. Scary Movie 6 hits theaters June 12, 2026.
