Who has given you the most second-hand embarrassment on The Vampire Diaries?

The Vampire Diaries managed to stand out from other young adult shows and gained a massive cult following thanks to its compelling story, addictive setting and, of course, brilliant casting and acting. Almost every member of the cast delivered with so much passion and emotion that it was hard not to get hooked.

They made the story of Mystic Falls believable and brought the supernatural beings to life.

However, there were some cast members who, according to fans on Reddit, could not keep up with the rest of the team. Here are five cast members who Reddit says had the worst acting on The Vampire Diaries.

5. Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan)

Although Zach Roerig, who plays Matt Donovan, everyone's friend and love interest, has appeared in all eight seasons of the show, fans don't find his performance compelling. This may have to do with the fact that the character was poorly written and didn't have much growth after Season 2. But fans also find that the scenes where Roerig really needed to show off his talent were kind of cringe-worthy. Just remember when Matt had a passenger and spoke with an accent that sounded terrible.

4. Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore)

Damon Salvatore may be the hottest character on The Vampire Diaries, but fans find Ian Somerhalder's acting underwhelming. Upon re-watching, many viewers who are now adults and not clouded by a teenage crush notice a lack of range and facial expressions. His best scenes seem to be with Nina Dobrev before they broke up and fans realize it was because he wasn't really acting.

3. Shaun Sipos (Aaron Whitmore)

Aaron Whitmore was introduced in Season 5 as a legacy of the Augustine Society and a minor antagonist. He only appeared in a handful of episodes before being killed by Damon, but fans remember him as one of the worst actors on the show. Shaun Sipos seemed to have only one facial expression every time viewers saw him on screen.

2. Grace Phipps (April Young)

Like Sipos, Grace Phipps only appeared in a few episodes and was mostly remembered for her bad performance. She played April Young, the daughter of a famous vampire hunter who comes to Mystic Falls in Season 4. Fans say the actress seemed to be trying too hard, which was physically uncomfortable to watch.

1. Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert)

The majority of fans agree that the crown of the worst actor in The Vampire Diaries goes to Steven R. McQueen for his performance as Jeremy Gilbert, Elena's brother and the protagonist of Seasons 1 through 6. Fans note that McQueen had only three facial expressions for every situation and sounded like he was just reciting lines. While tolerable in the first season, it gradually got so bad that the Jeremy scenes became frustrating to watch.

Not to mention, Steven R. McQueen delivered the most cringe-worthy scene in the entire series. Remember when he screams and rips off his shirt as the hunter's mark is completed on his body? Many viewers still feel the second-hand embarrassment of that scene.
