It might be taking things a bit too far for this show, though.

For those who haven't been keeping up with the current season of Ted Lasso, Ted's divorce resurfaced in Season 3 when he discovered a shocking truth. The man now dating his ex-wife is none other than their former marriage counsellor, Dr. Jacob Bryanson. While Ted tried to handle the collapse of his marriage with good cheer, the realisation that it was most likely intentionally sabotaged by the very man he trusted to help save it nearly broke his spirit.

Not only did he almost suffer another panic attack, but he also complained and ranted about the entire situation, which was uncharacteristic of his usual upbeat demeanour. This time, it was Ted who relied on support from those around him.

Now the fans have put forward the idea for a post-credit scene in which ‘Dr. Jacob is asleep. We pan across and see a clock that shows it's 4 AM before getting to the foot of the bed, and Roy is standing there, holding a red rope.' The proposal got a massive amount of upvotes; people loved it to bits online, probably, in no small measure, thanks to the subtle allusion it contains.

Why a red rope, you might ask? Well, one of the recent episodes featured the infamous idea conceived by Roy. To execute Ted's Total Football concept, all players on the team must be constantly aware of each other's positions on the field. Drawing inspiration from Ted's 'red string of fate' allegory, Roy decides that the team should train with thin red ropes attached to each player's private parts, ensuring they are acutely aware of their fellow players' locations.

Fortunately, that time all the players left the field with their private parts still attached, though there was one close call. As for whether Dr. Jacob will be so lucky, post-credit scenes are generally intended to serve as cliffhangers; thus, not knowing what happens to him is the whole point.

It seems doubtful that the showrunners would take things to such an extreme, but the fans have undeniably loved the concept.

As a reminder, the next episode of Ted Lasso airs on 3 May.
