Is it really wise for Aidan to plunge into a relationship with Carrie in And Just Like That…?

Aidan Shaw's comeback to the Sex and the City universe is officially slated for this summer. It's confirmed that he will be reprising his role as Carrie Bradshaw's central love interest. However, in the real world, would he realistically entertain such a notion? Carrie and Aidan's history is riddled with painful breakups, a botched engagement, and lots of drama.

Carrie's horrendous treatment of Aidan caused a significant proportion of this tumult. Here, we list five glaring instances:

She invited Big to Aidan's cabin

While Carrie and Aidan were dating a second time, Aidan had valid reasons to distrust Big. Despite this, Carrie unilaterally decided to invite Big to Aidan's cabin, neglecting to consult Aidan first. This action exhibited her utter disregard for Aidan's feelings and dignity.

She treated moving in terribly

Aidan made a commendable effort to accommodate Carrie when they moved in together. Nonetheless, Carrie reciprocated with extreme inconsideration. Of course, adjusting to shared living spaces can be challenging, particularly for those who cherish their personal space. However, this doesn't excuse hurtful comments or toxic behaviour.

She wore her engagement ring around her neck

After Aidan's proposal was accepted, Carrie's behaviour revealed her underlying regret and ambivalence. Perhaps the most bewildering act was her decision to wear the engagement ring around her neck.

While she justified it as keeping it 'closer to her heart', it was evident that she was never genuinely prepared to commit to Aidan.

She cheated on Aidan

Carrie's actions leading to their initial breakup are arguably the most reprehensible on the show. During their relationship, Carrie met Big, who was married at the time and started an affair with him that lasted several weeks. Eventually, a guilt-ridden Carrie confessed to Aidan, which ultimately led to the end of their relationship.

She treated Aidan as a backup plan

Carrie's most egregious act towards Aidan, surpassing even her infidelity, was treating him as a fallback boyfriend. It was clear that she had never fully moved on from Big and merely settled for Aidan when her dream man was off the table. If she truly respected Aidan, as she purported to, she would never have allowed their second toxic relationship to develop.

Moreover, now that Big has passed away, it's quite convenient for Carrie to turn to her backup boyfriend, isn't it? One wonders whether her feelings will be authentic this time around.

And Just Like That… Season 2 premieres on Max on 22 June 2023.
