Prime Video has officially renewed hit thriller The Assassin for Season 2 and dropped a production update that sets the timeline for its return.

Prime Video is sticking with The Assassin. The hit thriller is officially coming back for Season 2, and we finally have a sense of when cameras roll and where the story heads next.

Season 2 is a go

Prime Video has formally renewed The Assassin after months of chatter that new episodes were in the works. Production is slated to begin later this year. The series comes from creators and writers Harry and Jack Williams, who are steering the new chapter once again.

Where the story picks up

Season 2 catches up with Edward and Julie after the blowback from their botched trip to Northern Europe. When we meet them again, they are on opposite sides of a mysterious rift. Julie has slipped back into old habits and is testing the dating waters. Edward, fresh off a honeymoon that goes sideways, finds himself pulled right back into Julie's orbit.

The twist this time: Spain's criminal underworld. Edward and Julie end up teaming together there, even as they are forced to face the unresolved mess between them. Messy dynamics plus organized crime is basically this show's sweet spot.

Who is back

  • Keeley Hawes returns as Julie, the former assassin who tried to keep a low profile on a Greek island until her past — and her son — caught up with her.
  • Freddie Highmore is back as Edward, whose arrival in Season 1 blew up Julie's quiet life and dragged her history into the light.
  • Shalom Brune-Franklin reprises Kayla, Edward's determined fiancee.
  • Devon Terrell returns as Ezra, Kayla's brother.

When to expect it

With filming starting later this year, the production timeline points to a 2027 premiere window. An exact date remains to be announced.

For anyone catching up: in North America, Season 1 streamed on AMC Networks' AMC+ in the United States and was available on Crave and CTV in Canada.

Smart call by Prime Video. This show thrives on tension you can feel through the screen, and dropping Edward and Julie into Spain's underworld sounds like fertile ground for more sharp, messy fun.
