Prime Video just scored a blockbuster: Warner Bros.’ Minecraft, the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever, is now streaming seven months after its star-packed theatrical debut.

Prime Video just grabbed one of the biggest crowd-pleasers of the year. If you skipped it in theaters, the live-action Minecraft movie has officially landed on streaming.

As of today, Warner Bros.' A Minecraft Movie is now streaming on Prime Video. This is the live-action adaptation of Mojang Studios' block-busting best-seller, led by Jack Black and Jason Momoa, and it hits streaming a little over seven months after its theatrical run.

Critics were lukewarm (48% on Rotten Tomatoes from 197 reviews), but audiences showed up in force. The movie hauled in over $958 million worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing video game movie ever. It nearly doubled Sonic the Hedgehog 3's 2024 total (over $492 million) but still trails The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which sits comfortably at over $1.3 billion. That is a lot of blocks.

"Welcome to the world of Minecraft, where creativity doesn't just help you craft, it's essential to one's survival! Four misfits - Garrett 'The Garbage Man' Garrison, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn - find themselves struggling with ordinary problems when they are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they'll have to master this world (and protect it from evil things like Piglins and Zombies, too) while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve. Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative... the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world."

Yes, Steve shows up. And if you like seeing how many writers a studio movie can accumulate, this one is a case study.
