Power Prequel Locks In Big Names as Cameras Roll
Starz lights the fuse on Power: Origins, kicking off production and unveiling a fresh wave of cast for the next chapter in the Power universe.
Power keeps finding new branches to grow, and Starz just planted another big one. Cameras are rolling on Power: Origins, and along with the clapper snapping, the network dropped a batch of casting updates that fill in some key blanks on the early days of Ghost and Tommy.
Production is officially underway
Starz confirmed that filming on Power: Origins has started, and with it came a fresh round of cast reveals that the trades have been chasing. This prequel is positioned as the next chapter after Power Book III: Raising Kanan, with MeKai Curtis continuing to bridge the story as Kanan while we meet younger versions of the franchise heavyweights.
The new (and returning) faces
- Jennifer Ferrin plays young Kate Egan, described by Starz as wildly dramatic and attention-hungry, willing to manipulate anyone when she is using and desperate for her next hit.
- Jason Dirden is back as Traymont Stinson, reprising his Raising Kanan role. He was once tight with the Thomas family, later turned on them, and somehow lived through a near-fatal incident in Season 4, Episode 4.
- Lizzy DeClement is Jill Wexler, a nurse and recovering addict with med school dreams who falls for Tommy and, importantly, calls him out on his worst impulses.
- Lenny Platt is Lenny Seidell, a former finance bro who pivoted to owning a fitness business and now quietly supplies steroids to elite clients.
- Armani Gabriel is J-Boogs, a sharp, street-smart corner boy trusted by both Ghost and Tommy.
- Everett Osborne is Omay Moreau, a New York Jets tight end whose VIP lifestyle lures his friends into a world of expensive parties and easy excess.
- Spence Moore plays young Ghost.
- Charlie Mann plays young Tommy.
- MeKai Curtis returns as Kanan.
Where this fits in the larger plan
Power: Origins is the next prequel entry following Raising Kanan. Starz says Raising Kanan will wrap with its fifth season in 2026, which gives Origins plenty of runway to chart the early Ghost-and-Tommy era while Kanan still threads through the timeline. A nerdy production detail worth flagging: Season 1 of Origins is set for 18 episodes. That is a big swing compared to the 10-episode runs the other spinoffs have lived on so far.
'A fun, rambunctious exploration of a new time period in the Power franchise.'
Who is steering the ship
Sascha Penn is showrunning and executive producing. He is joined by a very familiar set of EPs: Courtney Kemp, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, Mark Canton, Chris Selak, Kevin Fox, and Pete Chatmon. Lionsgate Television is producing for Starz.
