Since appearing together in the much-loved Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom have become established names in Hollywood.

Both have appeared in many popular films since and have amassed large fan followings. This has led many to wonder if the actors are also friends in real life. Especially considering their clear on-screen chemistry throughout the Pirates' movies.

Johnny's and Orlando's close friendship

Depp and Bloom first met on the set of The Curse of the Black Pearl, and reportedly the two have been good friends ever since. Bloom has expressed his admiration for Depp on numerous occasions. In a previous interview with the BBC, Bloom revealed that working with Depp on the film was the most fun he had ever had on a movie set.

He went on to praise Depp's dedication to his work, saying that watching him create a character from scratch was inspiring, naming him as one of his personal heroes.

How Johnny Depp's defamation affected their relationships

Amidst the highly publicized defamation trial against Depp and Amber Heard, fans were left wondering how the case affected the actor's relationships with his co-stars. Fortunately for Depp, he has had nothing but support from his colleagues, especially from one of his closest friends, Orlando himself. By all accounts, they have remained close throughout, with Bloom even supporting his friend in his time of need.

Support from friends and colleagues

During a promotional tour for Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017, Bloom discusses his support of Depp to People, saying,

'The man that I know and love is the man who's here tonight, and he's like on form and does everything the right way… You know, people go through all kinds of weird stuff in the world, and it's just a shame that it has to be dragged out in public. Because God knows he's been one of the most private and stand-up people I've ever met.'

Bloom's sympathetic words for Depp came at a time when the actor's reputation was under much media scrutiny. Yet, as close friends, Bloom, as well as other colleagues, continued to stand by him throughout the trial.

It is clear that Depp and Bloom share a very close bond both on and off-screen. Their friendship has stood the test of time, and it seems that nothing can come between them. As Depp continues to face challenges in his personal life, most recently losing roles from both Warner Bros. and Disney, it is reassuring to know that he still has the support of his friends, such as Bloom, to rely on.
