Ari Aster’s neo-Western thriller Eddington, starring Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal, saddles up for an exclusive HBO Max debut on November 14, 2025, with HBO airings kicking off the same day.

Mark your calendar: Ari Aster is bringing his star-stuffed neo-Western to your couch. 'Eddington' finally has a streaming date, and yes, it is exactly the kind of small-town powder keg it sounds like.

'Eddington' lands exclusively on HBO Max on November 14, 2025. If you still watch movies the old-fashioned way, HBO will run it on linear the next night, November 15, at 8 p.m. EST.

Quick refresher on what this is: Aster wrote and directed, and produced alongside Lars Knudsen and Ann Ruark. It is his second team-up with Joaquin Phoenix after 'Beau Is Afraid.' This time Phoenix plays a sheriff, Pedro Pascal is the town mayor, and their rivalry turns the whole place into a fuse waiting to be lit. Aster calls it a neo-Western thriller set in Eddington, New Mexico, which fits.

"A small-town sheriff (Phoenix) and mayor (Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico."

It premiered in July 2025, pulled in mostly positive reviews, and made $12.7 million at the box office. Not exactly a franchise launch, and there is no sequel planned, but Aster has teased he is toying with another film set in the same world. Translation: don’t expect 'Eddington 2,' but the door is cracked open.
