Peaky Blinders Creator Teases The Immortal Man as a Novel’s Final Chapter
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight teases The Immortal Man will land like a final chapter, a big-screen ending with the weight and closure of a novel.
Tommy Shelby is not done with you yet. After six seasons and a clean exit in 2022, he’s riding back in for one last go: a feature called 'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man' that aims to close his story for good. Emphasis on 'aims' — creator Steven Knight is hopeful this really is the final chapter.
Knight says this is the endgame
Speaking with Empire, Knight framed the movie like a literal final chapter for the character and the world.
I hope it feels like the end of a novel. It’s the last few chapters of a long novel, where you get to round it off. And prepare people for what comes next.
Where we find Tommy now
The film is set in 1940, with World War II underway and Birmingham under the Blitz. We last saw Tommy leaving the city behind, disappearing on horseback and drifting back toward his Gypsy roots. The movie pulls him back — to Birmingham, to the life he can’t quite shake — and Cillian Murphy likes the symmetry of that: he calls it an elegant bookmark on a story that began in the mud and smoke of that city.

Yes, there’s more Peaky after this
Even if 'The Immortal Man' wraps Tommy’s arc, the universe keeps moving. Earlier this year, Netflix put a sequel series into development, set in 1953. Birmingham is rebuilding itself from wartime devastation, pouring concrete and steel into a new future, and the fight shifts to who controls that reconstruction — a nasty, sprawling power struggle in a city full of opportunity and danger, with the Shelby family still right in the splash zone. Knight says it stays rooted in Birmingham, tracks a city rising from the ashes, and hands the wheel to a new generation of Shelbys. His promise: it will move fast and hit hard.
Release plan
'Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man' opens in select theaters on March 6, 2026, and hits Netflix on March 20, 2026.
