Everyone saw it, almost nobody caught it. In a blink, the story shifted in plain sight—and the repercussions are already reshaping what happens next.

Peacemaker season 2 finally spelled out what a bunch of you have been whispering for weeks: the alternate universe is Nazi Earth. And the show did not exactly hide it. The twist was literally baked into the opening credits the whole time. Mildly infuriating. Also, spoilers ahead for season 2, episode 6.

The tell was in the dance

James Gunn loves using his title sequences as a little mission statement each season, then tweaking them as episodes roll out. This time, the big clue was in the first 10 seconds: John Cena, mid-routine, locks his arms into a shape that is not subtle. It is a swastika. Once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Weeks later, fans started calling it out publicly, including one post on September 26, 2025 that basically summed up the collective facepalm: "Wait, how the hell did it take me so long to notice THAT shape?!"

Episode 6 makes it explicit

If the opener was the quiet spoiler, episode 6 is the air horn:

  • We are on Earth-X, a timeline where the Nazis won World War 2.
  • There is a suspicious absence of non-white people on the streets.
  • A swastika is literally part of the American flag.
  • Leota Adebayo gets chased by a large group of white locals.
  • For Christopher Smith, it looks weirdly "perfect" at first: his dad is around, and his brother is still alive.

So yeah, the series sprinkled the answer everywhere, then underlined it with a Sharpie.

Why the new credits had Gunn sweating

Gunn has said the season 2 opener was the one thing that actually made him nervous, mostly because season 1 turned into a viral phenomenon and you cannot recapture the first-time shock of "surprise, here is a deadpan dance number" twice. As he told GamesRadar+:

"It was the only thing I was really nervous about. People say, 'How are you going to one-up the first season?' You can't one-up the first season because, truth is, people didn't know a dance scene was coming. So they watched that first episode of Peacemaker, and all of a sudden there is a dance sequence and people are like, 'What is going on? This is the most insane thing I have ever seen.' You can never recapture that. I have to recapture that within the episodes themselves."

Mission accomplished: the credits quietly spoiled the Earth-X twist, and the episode slammed the door on any doubt.

Peacemaker season 2 is now airing.
