Peacemaker Season 2 goes out with a bang as the finale drops on HBO Max October 9 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, thrusting John Cena’s Chris Smith into a high-stakes endgame.
Peacemaker Season 2 wraps up in a few hours, so let’s set the table. Quick refresher on where we left off, what the new trailer is actually teasing, and the very loud fan theories circling the drain. Spoilers for last week below.
Finale at a glance
- Episode: Season 2, Episode 8, titled 'Full Nelson'
- When: October 9 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
- Where: HBO Max
- Written by: James Gunn
- Directed by: James Gunn
Previously: welcome to the worst Earth
Episodes 6 and 7 yanked Chris Smith and the 11th Street Kids into Earth-X, a dimension where the Axis won World War II. Translation: the place is crawling with Nazis and people who are very comfortable with being racists.
The big swing there was Auggie. On Earth-X, Chris’s father is still the Blue Dragon, but he’s not a monster: he’s actually been fighting the fascists. He even launches into a speech about taking on injustice solo… right before Vigilante crashes in and stabs him. The misunderstanding is colossal: Vigilante arrived with his Earth-X counterpart and a few of the Kids to bail out Chris and Emilia Harcourt, and had no clue Auggie was a good guy in this version.
Harcourt drags Chris away from his father’s body while he repeats, 'I don’t think he was a Nazi. He wasn’t a Nazi.' Then Chris’s brother jumps him; the team nearly puts the brother down, but Chris stops the kill shot, breaks down, apologizes to his brother, and they bail for Earth-1.
Back on Earth-1: surrender, ARGUS, and a very dangerous box
Burned out by the body count, Chris turns himself in to Rick Flag Sr. and ARGUS. He hands over the Quantum Unfolding Chamber — that reality-door contraption they really should not be poking. Meanwhile, Keith is confirmed alive, which screams 'revenge subplot' no matter which Earth you’re standing on.
The trailer: jailhouse blues and door number 'oh no'
The finale promo shows Chris in a cell, refusing visitors and calling himself the 'angel of f**king death.' He’s not staying locked up; we all know that. More interesting: ARGUS immediately starts fiddling with the Chamber, pops open a few doors to bizarre alt-realities, and one expedition looks like it goes sideways fast. That sets up two plausible messes: either the Kids get dragooned into patching a crisis in some other world, or ARGUS accidentally reopens the Nazi dimension and gives Keith a way to escalate his revenge tour.
Eagly might be the ace up the sleeve
Yes, the eagle. The show’s been hinting Eagly isn’t just a great hugger — he might be a demi-god tier 'Prime Eagle.' In Episode 5, other eagles literally took orders from him and mobbed Red St. Wild. And James Gunn has flat-out said Eagly is the most powerful member of Peacemaker’s crew. If Keith or a wave of Nazis pour through a door onto Earth-1, don’t be shocked if Eagly summons an aerial beatdown and we finally see the full scope of his powers.
Deaths, cameos, and the rumor mill
One widely shared fan prediction claims at least two mainstays are toast in the finale. The theory: John Economos gets taken out by Sasha, a cybernetically enhanced villain, and Vigilante sacrifices himself to save Chris (and Harcourt) from the season’s big bad. That speculation — from Gil Dice (@Whiteboardpoets) on October 8, 2025 — even ties the antagonist forward to Superman’s next movie, Man of Tomorrow.
On the cameo front, there’s chatter that the Justice Gang could show up. Maybe David Corenswet’s Superman pops in. The guesses split between them joining the climactic fight or dropping in during the credits to recruit Peacemaker for something bigger.
Does Episode 8 set up Season 3, or something else?
Gunn was asked about a third season on Threads and gave the 'wait and see' answer:
'I think let’s get to the end of the season before you answer that question.'
He told Deadline a similar but more pointed version, hinting that the ending is definitive while keeping doors open for these characters across the new DCU:
'You’re gonna find out more in episode eight because it’s not necessarily that. Some of these characters will continue, but also, it’s not exactly Peacemaker 3. I’m not ruling it out. You’ll see [episode] eight and maybe you’ll find out a little bit more.'
Bottom line: expect closure for this chapter, but don’t expect the characters to vanish. Also worth noting: after finishing his WWE commitments at the end of this year, John Cena is pivoting fully back to Hollywood, so he’s available for a potential Season 3 and looks like a long-term DCU presence.
One more dangling thread: the show may be planting the first dominoes for Man of Tomorrow, the next Superman movie. The finale could be where that starts to click.
