Pressed on Avengers: Doomsday and his MCU return, Paul Rudd kept it locked down with a two-word answer—doubling down on secrecy despite his March 2025 casting reveal.

Paul Rudd just got asked about Avengers: Doomsday and basically said... nothing. But even his non-answer tells you how locked down this thing is. So, here is what he did say, and everything else that actually matters right now.

Rudd on his Avengers return (yes, it is happening)

At the premiere of his new movie Anaconda, Rudd chatted with Entertainment Tonight about suiting up again as Scott Lang in Avengers: Doomsday. Asked to describe what is coming in one word, he kept it simple:

"It is exciting. I mean, that is like the most boring answer I could have possibly given you. And I am giving it to you. Take it, do with it what you will."

He is not wrong. It is the most boring answer. But it confirms he is in and he is playing it close to the vest.

The marketing rumor that is a little wild

There is a new rumor making the rounds that Marvel will drop multiple different Doomsday trailers on a weekly rotation alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash screenings. Translation: if this is true, you could see new Doomsday footage attached to Avatar on different weeks during its run. It is aggressive, it is unusual, and it would definitely keep the hype meter redlined.

Where Rudd has been in the MCU

Rudd has been a mainstay since his 2015 debut in Ant-Man. Since then: Captain America: Civil War in 2016, Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018, Avengers: Endgame in 2019, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023. He has also voiced Scott in episodes of the Disney+ animated shows What If...? and Marvel Zombies.

His Doomsday casting was part of the March 2025 wave that confirmed he and more than 20 other Marvel regulars are back.

What Doomsday is and who is behind it

Avengers: Doomsday is one of 2026's big ones and, unsurprisingly, interest is sky-high. The Russo brothers, Anthony and Joe, are back in the Avengers chair, working from a script by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely. And the cast list is stacked, with one very notable curveball in the villain department.

  • Directors: Anthony Russo and Joe Russo
  • Writers: Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely
  • Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man
  • Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom
  • Chris Hemsworth as Thor
  • Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman
  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America
  • Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier / Professor X
  • Release date: December 18, 2026

Yes, that is Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. Wild choice, big statement, and the kind of swing that will dominate the conversation until we see footage. Speaking of footage... we will see soon enough if that Avatar trailer plan is a real thing or just wishful thinking.
