Whatever happened to Jamie and Claire's sex life?

This is the question a lot of Outlander fans are asking themselves after watching the first part of Season 7.

The time-traveling lovebirds have been the heart of the story since Season 1, and fans have grown accustomed to seeing the passion and intimacy between them. Claire and Jamie's physical relationship feels like their way of communicating and letting the audience know they are okay despite all the hardships.

In Season 7, however, there was only one lovemaking scene with Jamie and Claire — and it didn't feel half as intimate and tender as previous seasons. So what happened? Outlander executive producer Maril Davis told Insider that the number of storylines crammed into this season made the creative team choosy about what to adapt from the books.

'As the show evolves, different things come into play,' Davis said. 'We talk a lot about intimate moments needing to be organic to the story. And in the book, it's easier just because there's more space and more time to do things. Sometimes when things get condensed, it's not as easy.'

Season 7 is based on three books by Diana Gabaldon, so there's a lot to fit in. Unfortunately, the erotic scenes that made the novels such a pleasure to read did not make it to the screen. Davis added that the team also didn't want to be repetitive. And let's face it, some of the sexy moments from the early seasons are just unparalleled.

'There's so much stuff you do in early seasons, you can't necessarily replicate. We're never going to have another "Wedding night,"' the producer continued.

Does that mean we'll never get the thrill of Claire and Jamie's true love again? The producer promises that the Frasers will remain our romantic rock, but their relationship will mature along with them.

'We're certainly not ignoring the intimacy. It's there, but we're also trying to show it sometimes in different ways,' Davis explained. 'The overall story of the show is going to change and evolve, and so is their love story. It's going to have ebbs and flows to it.'

Sadly, the producer did not shed any light on whether we'll see the passion described in Gabaldon's books in the second part of the season, slated for 2024.

'Who knows? We'll see,' Davis' answer was.

Well, it looks like it's time to re-watch the sex scenes from the early seasons of Outlander. At least we can't be deprived of them!
