Her pick was a bit surprising, but great.

All authors take their inspiration from existing works of fiction, and Diana Gabaldon is no exception. The writer who penned the Outlander book series, which has been adapted by Starz into a show of the same name, recently revealed what her favorite film of all time is — and her pick may surprise you!

Though Gabaldon is now in her 70s, she is quite active on social media. Sometime ago, a Twitter user asked her, 'What is the movie you have watched most in your life?' — and the author's answer to that was, 'The original Fantasia.'

Walt Disney's 1940 animated film Fantasia was the studio's third feature production. An anthology comprising eight animated segments set to pieces of classical music, the movie is indeed a stunning work of animation and a prime example of how visuals and sound can be perfectly married on screen.

Despite all the technical advancements made in the field of animation since the 1940s, Fantasia still looks amazing today, and it is no wonder it remains the 23rd highest-grossing film of all time in the US. So, whether you are a fan of Gabaldon or not, Disney's Fantasia is certainly not to miss.

While it's not hard to see why this movie was Gabaldon's number one pick, fans were somewhat surprised to learn about her love for Fantasia because this magical work of art is just so drastically different from the author's gritty and bloody romance series. On the other hand, watching Fantasia so many times has certainly helped Gabaldon develop her artistic taste and imagination, and that is ultimately what gave us the Outlander story.

Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series consists of nine novels, and she is now writing the tenth (most likely, the final) book. As of 2021, more than 50 million copies of her novels were sold in 114 countries and 38 languages, and Starz's adaptation of the story has been doing equally well, becoming an absolute smash hit for its home network.

Season 7 of Starz's Outlander is expected for release this summer, and now may be just the right time to watch (or rewatch) Disney's Fantasia. You'll surely enjoy Diana Gabaldon's all-time favorite animation, and it'll also help you pass the time before the first episode premieres on June 16, 2023.
