Outlander Cast Vs. Their Season 7 Counterparts' Real Age: Guess Who's Older?
Starz's Outlander is perfectly cast, but the actors' and their characters' ages don't always match.
This Friday, the first episode of Outlander's much-anticipated Season 7 finally hits our screens. The events of the new season will mostly take place in 1776, at the height of the American War of Independence, just over 30 years after the Jacobite Rebellion.
This means that the beloved characters are now much older than they were in the early seasons, but do the actors match the age of the characters they play? Let's find out.
7. Ian Murray/Okwaho'kenha
Diana Gabaldon's original novels indicate that Jamie's nephew was born in 1752, making him 23–24 years old in the show's seventh season — a full-blown adult by both American law and Mohawk tradition. Actor John Bell is 25, only a year older than his character.
6. William Ransom
Lord John Grey's adopted child and Jamie's illegitimate son was born in 1752, which makes him 18 years old in the new season. William Ransom is played by Charles Vandervaart, who is actually 22, but he looks his character's age in the series.
5. Lord John Grey
According to the novels, Lord John was born in 1729, making him about 47 years old at the time of Season 7. Actor David Berry is now 39, significantly younger than John Grey, but he does a marvelous job channeling the book character's charm on the Starz show.
3. Brianna MacKenzie
Claire and Jamie's daughter was about 29 in 1971 and in 1776, when Outlander Season 7 is set. Sophie Skelton, the actress who plays her, also recently turned 29, making her a perfect casting choice for the character.
2. Claire Fraser
Notably, actress Caitríona Balfe is 17 years younger than her character, who is supposed to be 60 in 1776. But the huge age difference is explained by a jump cut in the series, and the 43-year-old actress fits her role perfectly.
1. Jamie Fraser
Unlike Claire, Jamie is not a time traveler. Born in 1721, he is 55 years old at the time of the series. Actor Sam Heughan is only 43, the same age as his co-star, but he has proved time and again that Outlander could not have found a better actor to portray fan-favorite Jamie.
