Oopsie! A Cast Member Accidentally Spoils Benophie in Bridgerton Season 4
Are fan-favourite couple Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Beckett on the horizon for Bridgerton Season 4?
Fans are getting impatient. Bridgerton's second season premiered in March 2022, but there's still no word on when the next episodes will drop. And while we know that Colin and Penelope's love story will take center stage in the upcoming season, the fact that the books are now being adapted out of order means that we have no idea whose romance will be up next.
But the hints are starting to add up… and one cast member may have given us the biggest spoiler of all!
Hint #1: When asked about the upcoming order for the stories, new showrunner Jess Brownell told Vanity Fair:
'Even though we're reversing the order of the books, I think all the people you would expect to see — Benedict, who is book three, he will be a vital part of Season 3.'
Bridgerton seems to have started a pattern of developing their romantic leads for a while before featuring their love story. We watched Anthony go through a tumultuous first season before being matched with Kate Sharma, and Penelope got significant screen time in season two in order to set up her year with Colin.
The fact that Benedict will be a 'vital part' of this upcoming season is a strong hint that he may be taking the spotlight when season 4 rolls around.
Hint #2: In Season 2, Anthony listed 'needing to hire new staff' in his list of duties – specifically, a strong-willed ladies' maid for Eloise.
Those who read Julia Quinn's An Offer From a Gentleman (aka Benophie's book) may recall that Sophie is brought in as a maid to the Bridgerton family after Benedict saves her from a dangerous situation.
Perhaps Anthony's new hires will include a certain gently-bred young lady…
Hint #3: The biggest hint of all? Cast member Ruby Barker (Marina Thompson) recently let it slip while responding to fan comments on her latest Instagram post that she will not be appearing in Season 3.
Fans of the book will remember that Marina's early death paves the way for her widower, Sir Philip, to begin a marriage of convenience with Eloise. If Marina is completely absent in Season 3, perhaps her death (unlikely to happen offscreen) is a long way off. In which case, Barker may have just given us the strongest hint yet that Benophie is coming up in S4.
