Summary

  • Since Modern Family ended its run, fans have been clamoring for a reboot.
  • The recent appearance of the Modern Family cast at the SAG Awards sparked a new wave of speculation about a revival.
  • One of MF's main actors was recently cast in another show.

Although Modern Family ended its run nearly four years ago, it remains one of the most popular comedies of all time. When it premiered in 2009, the ABC sitcom became an instant hit thanks to its mockumentary format, unusually applied to the lives of the extended Pritchett-Dunphy family. As a result, the show ran for an impressive eleven seasons and gained worldwide popularity.

Naturally, many viewers were heartbroken when Modern Family ended and looked forward to a possible reboot of the beloved comedy. For years after MF ended, its stars were reluctant to even consider reprising their iconic roles, until Sofia Vergara talked about the possibility of reviving the sitcom a few months ago. But it's too early to get our hopes up.

A New Surge of Reboot Rumors

The 30th Annual SAG Awards took place at the end of February this year, with many prominent actors taking the stage to either present or receive an award. FX's hit comedy-drama The Bear won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, continuing its winning streak from the Emmys, where it had six wins. And The Bear's ensemble was presented with the award by none other than the beloved Modern Family cast.

Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, Ed O'Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet took the stage to present the award and reminisce about the good old days of glory. As they all admitted to missing Modern Family, J.T. Ferguson wondered if it was too soon to reboot the show. And of course, many fans of the cult mockumentary took that as a hint. But here's a solid reason why an MF revival won't be happening anytime soon.

Ty Burrell's New Role

The Phil Dunphy actor has reportedly been cast in an upcoming ABC sitcom titled Forgive and Forget. Penned by Eugene Garcia-Cross of The Santa Clauses and Indebted fame, the multi-camera sitcom will revolve around Ty Burrell's character Hank, an inveterate hedonist whose life is turned upside down when he receives an unexpectedly gruesome diagnosis. To put his life back together, Hank tries to reconnect with his adult son, Ben, a mature and dependable man who's nothing like his father. And the two must make new memories together.

Currently, ABC has only ordered a pilot for the show, but there is no word on when Forget and Forgive will debut on the network. One thing is for sure, Ty Burrell has no time for a Modern Family revival.
