Netflix’s One Piece Season 2 is poised to shake up the Grand Line as rule-bending Marine captain Smoker crashes the scene, with Callum Kerr making his series debut.

Netflix is sailing One Piece back into port for Season 2, and the show is bringing in a heavy hitter right out of the gate: Smoker. Yes, the cigar-chomping Marine with zero patience for nonsense is joining the live-action run, with Callum Kerr stepping into the role. Season 2 is set to drop March 10, 2026, picking up as the Straw Hats push deeper into the Grand Line.

Meet Smoker: the Marine who plays it his way

Smoker first shows up in the Loguetown arc, and he leaves an impression immediately — partly because he always has two cigars going, mostly because he is not the usual one-note Marine antagonist. He is relentless about catching pirates (Luffy is very high on his list), but he is not cruel or power-drunk. He has his own compass for justice, and he will break Marine rules if that is what it takes to do what he thinks is right.

Why Smoker is a problem for the Straw Hats

Smoker ate the Smoke-Smoke Fruit, aka the Moku Moku no Mi, a Logia-type Devil Fruit that lets him turn his body into smoke. That means he can disperse, fly, and smother enemies in thick, choking clouds. He also carries a massive jitte tipped with Seastone, which shuts down Devil Fruit powers on contact. Put that together and you have one of the rare Marines who can actually scrap with the Straw Hats on equal footing.

In the anime and manga, Smoker has a habit of popping up right when the crew thinks they have slipped away from the Marines. He respects strength, he questions orders, and he is not a straightforward villain — which is exactly why his arrival in the live-action series matters. Season 2 is where the Marines stop being background noise and start feeling like a real, complicated threat.

So, who is playing him?

Netflix has officially confirmed that Callum Kerr is your Smoker in Season 2. If you clocked the Season 1 finale’s quick tease — the silhouette, the cigars — that was your heads up. The character known as the 'White Hunter' is stepping fully into the story now.

Kerr is not new to intense TV drama. You have seen him in Monarch, Virgin River, The Wheel of Time, and earlier in Hollyoaks. It is a strong fit on paper: if the show nails Smoker’s attitude and the smoke effects, he is the kind of wild-card character who can quickly become a fan favorite.

What to expect in Season 2

The Straw Hats are officially in the Grand Line, which is where the series leans into bigger stakes and sharper moral lines — and Smoker is basically the poster child for that. Expect him to chase Luffy hard, push back on Marine bureaucracy, and force the crew into trickier corners than they have faced so far.

One Piece Season 2 hits Netflix on March 10, 2026. Season 1 is streaming now if you need a refresher — or you just want to revisit that finale tease knowing who is finally stepping out of the smoke.
