One Piece’s latest bombshell has fans second-guessing everything: even with Rocks D. Xebec established as Blackbeard’s father, a surging theory claims the real heir to his legacy is Buggy—and the trail of clues is getting harder to ignore.

One Piece theory time: ever since Rocks D. Xebec finally showed up, fans have been whispering about a wild twist — that he might actually be Buggy's dad. Now a new 'official coloring' making the rounds is throwing more fuel on that fire. If it pans out, it would be a pretty massive shake-up.

The Xebec-Buggy theory, now with colors

A post from Pew (@pewpiece) on X claims to show the official color design for Xebec. The art gives Xebec blue streaks in his hair and a nasty, showman-like mug that does look suspiciously Buggy-adjacent. The read from fans: those blue streaks could explain Buggy's blue hair, and the face shape lines up more than you might expect.

If that connection is real, it is not a small thing — it would change how we read several characters and a chunk of the current story momentum.

What the manga actually shows (and does not)

We just wrapped Xebec's flashback in the manga with his defeat at God Valley, where Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp tag-teamed to take him down. In all of that, there was zero explicit mention of any link to Buggy. Nothing. So this is still fan speculation, not a reveal.

There is also a popular belief floating around that Xebec is Blackbeard's father. The series has never flat-out confirmed that either, but the fandom treats it like an open secret because of various breadcrumbs. If you buy that and then add 'Buggy is Xebec's kid' on top, you suddenly have a new line connecting Blackbeard and Buggy — two of the most important pieces on the board right now — through Xebec.

Why this theory hits a nerve

Buggy's whole deal has been one long streak of 'wrong place, right time.' He keeps stumbling upward. The one thing about him that was not pure dumb luck is that he sailed with Roger, which baked him into the story's DNA from day one. Still, he has never had the overwhelming power or authority you'd expect from someone sitting among the top pirates. Tie him to Xebec and, like it or not, his string of flukes starts to feel like fate — or at least like there's a bigger engine under the hood. Without something like that, he risks staying a gag character who keeps cashing checks he didn't really earn.

If it is true, what changes?

  • Buggy's blue hair could be traced to Xebec's blue-streaked design, giving a visual breadcrumb real weight.
  • It forges a direct bond between Buggy and Blackbeard (if you subscribe to the Xebec-Blackbeard parent theory), tightening the web between two headline players.
  • Buggy's rise stops being just comic relief and starts reading like long-game setup, boosting his significance in the endgame.
  • The narrative would have a new, juicy reveal to deploy later — a classic Oda 'you thought this was a joke, but actually...' move.

My read

As a color design, the similarities are hard to ignore. As evidence, it is still thin. Unless this comes straight from Oda, Toei, or Viz, treat 'official' with some caution. That said, the idea fits the character math way better than I expected, and it would be a legitimately big swing if Oda decides to make it canon.

Do you think Oda will actually pull the trigger and name Xebec as Buggy's father, or is this just a fun rabbit hole? Sound off below.
