A single touch on Egghead could rewrite One Piece’s power map: after Luffy blasted Saint Jaygarcia Saturn away, Blackbeard pirates Catarina Devon and Van Augur arrived—and Devon brushed Saturn’s leg, a small move that may expose the Five Elders’ secret and Blackbeard’s true endgame.

One Piece slipped a sneaky little setup into Egghead that might turn into Blackbeard's nastiest power grab yet. It all hinges on Catarina Devon casually touching Saint Jaygarcia Saturn's leg. Sounds absurd. It might be genius.

The blink-and-you-miss-it moment on Egghead

During the Egghead Island chaos, Devon rolled up with Van Augur and crossed paths with Saturn right after Luffy had literally punched the Elder out of the picture. Devon reached down, put a hand on Saturn's leg, and then walked away like a burglar who just cracked a safe.

"My mission is complete."

At the time, nobody knew why that touch mattered. Now it makes a lot of sense.

Why the leg touch matters

Devon ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsune - the nine-tailed fox fruit. She can transform into a fox and, more importantly here, perfectly copy other people, down to their outfits. The catch: she has to physically touch the target first.

So by tagging Saturn, she locked in his template. When she did it, Saturn was alive, so impersonating him would have been a risky, limited-use trick. Then things took a turn: Imu personally burned Saturn to ash not long after. With Saturn gone, Devon is now the only person walking around who can look and sound exactly like him.

The Seraphim angle

This is where it gets spicy. The Seraphim - those next-gen Pacifista made to replace the Seven Warlords - are terrifying living weapons. We have already seen they can push even a Yonko onto the back foot. They are also picky about who they listen to. Their command system is locked behind a strict hierarchy, and they do not accept orders transmitted over Den Den Mushi. At the very top of that chain: the Five Elders.

If Devon appears as Saturn, she can issue top-authority orders to the Seraphim. With Saturn dead, there is no real Saturn around to countermand anything. And the way their command logic works, an order once set cannot be overridden by another person with the same rank. One caveat flagged in all this: the plan would apply to the Seraphim lineup except S-Bear.

  • Devon's fruit: Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Kyubi no Kitsune - nine-tailed fox, lets her clone people and even their clothes after she touches them.
  • She touched Saturn on Egghead right after Luffy blasted him away, then said her job was done.
  • Saturn is later killed by Imu, leaving Devon as the only perfect Saturn stand-in.
  • Seraphim control: top-down hierarchy, no Den Den Mushi ordering, Five Elders sit at the highest authority, and same-rank orders do not overwrite each other.
  • Devon-as-Saturn could command the Seraphim - with the noted exception of S-Bear.

Blackbeard's play, spelled out

Remember Amazon Lily? Blackbeard got a firsthand look at the Seraphim and how devastating they are. If you are Teach and you are constantly scheming for an edge, you clock that immediately. The working theory here is simple: he sent Catarina Devon to secure Saturn's form so he can deploy her later to hijack the Seraphim in a big fight. Since the Seraphim will obey the Elders above anyone else, and since you cannot override an existing command with another Elder of equal rank, that would give Blackbeard a one-way door into controlling a fleet of living weapons when it matters most.

Does it hold up?

As far as pirate chess goes, it tracks. Devon gets the touch. Saturn dies. Devon becomes a walking master key. The Seraphim have already proven they can stall a Yonko. If Blackbeard pulls this off, he does not just get muscle - he gets muscle nobody else can easily un-command. That is a nightmare for whoever ends up across from him.

One Piece anime is streaming on Crunchyroll, and the manga is up to read on Viz Media.
