The showrunner's attitude makes you wanna join the Our Flag Means Death fan base.

David Jenkins' Our Flag Means Death (OFMD) is certainly a unique show. During its Season 1 run, the quirky little comedy about the lives and loves of pirates attracted a massive fan base fascinated by the story of the Gentleman Pirate and Blackbeard, and became a record-breaking sleeper hit.

But the show's uniqueness didn't stop there. David Jenkins and the cast have managed to create a light-hearted, supportive, and fun atmosphere among the show's diverse fan base that sets it apart from similarly popular projects with die-hard fandoms.

With the creator and cast constantly engaging with fans on social media and supporting their OFMD-inspired creativity, it is a pure pleasure to be part of the fandom. And, in fact, Jenkins is enjoying it as well.

Cast and crew appreciate the fans and their passion

The showrunner recently told Collider that it is an honor for him to be a part of what is an obsession for so many people, and he is having a great time interacting with the fans.

'Everyone's been lovely. When people are being nice and normal, easy to be around, yeah, I wanna be at that party,' Jenkins said. 'Are you kidding me?'

The love of the fans comes from the love of the cast and crew. Jenkins and everyone working on the show took a risk making this queer love pirate story, but they put their heart into it and the praise didn't take long to come. Beyond their wildest expectations. And much to their delight.

'You're gonna celebrate all the work that we did when we didn't know if the show would be good,' Jenkins added. 'Because when you're making these things, you're like, "Well, I know this is just my weird thing. Maybe people like it, maybe they won't."'

They sure did, and that means a lot to the showrunner. He feels part of the OFMD fandom and proved it by spending the night before the Season 2 premiere watching the sunset and talking to fans near the show's billboard in Times Square.

'When people are this gracious and effusive and not weird about it, it's like, "Yeah, let's talk. This is great. You're a fan of the stuff that we were a fan of. We're not different." So that's really rare,' the showrunner told Collider.

Well, with such an attitude, the long and bright future and even more public love is guaranteed for OFMD.

Our Flag Means Death Season 2 Episodes 4 and 5 dock on Max on October 12 at midnight PT/3am ET.
